I currently have been using Ashdown amps and trace elliot.

I also used to play 90's Fender M-80 bass combo, which is the reason I'm here today... this is a fantastic sounding amp and wondered if any of the new Fender amps/cabs etc sound like these old M-80 amps. I have never heard an amp that gets this sound, it is really great!

I need a gigging amp that is powerful enough but also robust and reliable.

any suggestions in Fenders current range? that old M-80 sounded beautiful but kinda of a one trick pony.

Just want something to compliment that Ric tone!

Everything you'll ever need is right here......

http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0213302010

Add a 2 x 15 cab (or two) and stir.

Check out the Fender Rumble heads. The smallest one is about as powerful as the M-80 bass head was but the Rumble has a better preamp and weights about one-fourth as much. You are right, the M-80 was a pretty good head in it's day so far as solid state heads of the day go. It was bigger and heavier and more over-engineered than it had to be, which is why some of them are still around and still sound decent. The downside with the M-80 is lack of tonal range compared to modern amps, no XLR out, etc...but it was a pretty loud 160 watts.

If money and weight were not considerations, I would echo the previous suggestion of the Bassman 300 Pro to anyone who wants a tube amp. While it may seem pricey, it actually sounds better to me than other more costly all-tube amps and actually a tad lighter, but still really heavy. I used one which was the Sunn edition and have used other tube amps by Ampeg, Marshall, Gibson, the Sunn 2050 and the old CBS era Fender Bassmans. I'd still pick the Bassman 300 Pro over any of them because of the EQ section and other features like direct out. It is my favorite bass tube amp. I am older now and I move my own gear. I now gig with a smaller solid state rig and patch out to the PA and record direct so I don't need a heavy tube head and I sure don't want to move one.

Sometimes you can find these 300 tube amps with the SUNN logo used. It is the same exact amp as the Fender 300 Bassman Pro just re-badged.

May help if they take it off the website then, instead of getting me all excited.

There are still plenty available on the secondary market. And for one who's serious about tone, they're worth seeking out.

Maybe these new Bassman tube amps coming out in a few months will do the trick?

Being in the UK you have access to only what the UK/France distributor wants to import. If the 300 has been discontinued it is VERY recently, like June 30th.

It has been my hope since the TV combos came out and almost everything named just "Bassman" was discontinued that Fender might have a new line of Bassman heads coming, but not yet.
