I'm looking to sell my old Bass amp but I have no idea how much it is and I need some help get a price range.

It is a old Sunn Concert Bass Amp, 400watt head. I have the serial number and some old warranty information on the back of it. The warranty sticker is partially ripped but the year 1980 is on it. Not sure if thats the final year of the warranty or the date it started.

Any help would be appreciated. Ill post more info as requested and try to post pics.

These amps (I'm assuming you have only the head) typically command $275 to $350 on the secondary market, contingent upon the serviceability and the condition of the cosmetics. Sunn made a great product back in the day and their bass rigs are legendary.

thanks for the quick reply guys. I'm not too good at posting pics on these boards but I have an ad for it on craigslist which I am pretty confident no one will take seriously.

You can see pics of the head here.

hopefully that helps you.

Also, I do have the cabinet to it too. But it's speakerless at the moment.

Thanks again

Another reason I am asking about this price is that I keep seeing the 150 watt versions from the mid to late 80's going for around $500. I would think the 400w version is a little more pricey. Just though I would add that in. ;)

What convinces you that it's a "400w version"?

I've worked on a few of these in the day. The 400 watts listed is the power the amp pulls from the wall.

The rating of a Sunn Concert was 150 watts into 4 ohms and 105 watts into 8 ohms. That was pretty good for the period.

These amps go for around $200-275. They are not particularily collectable. Some parts are not possible to find, like the interstage transformers.

There are four 2N3055 output devices in this amp. 4 of these are not capable of putting out 400 watts. Peaks may approach that, if the amp is pushed hard, but 150 watts is about what this amp can do.

The Sunn Coliseum was their bigger head, and it ran 300 watts, or at least that's what we all thought. When it came out, Sunn claimed it was only 120 watts RMS. It was much higher headroom and output than the Concert, not that the Concert isn't a decent amp.

The Sunn factory literature I have at hand (the 1972 catalog) specifies the Coliseum's output as 220 watts RMS at 4Ω and 320 watts RMS at 2Ω. My brother owns two of these -- one Coliseum Bass head, one Coliseum slave.

That makes sense. The output compliment is similar to a 370 head.
