That 400 Pro pictured has a Fender RT1000 rack tuner mounted in it. I know because I use one. I'd get that one if the tuner is included.

For lessons, your instructor should have an amp available. If not, you can get something very compact.

When just starting out a few features that benefit a beginner include: headphone jack, CD/MP3 input, built in tuner (or buy an external one.) You'll also need sealed ear headphones and a metronome is also good to have.

Let us know what you wind up with!

There is a used Bassman 200 advertised locally. Would this be overkill for someone starting out?

This is what is on its way (seller's pics):

I just bought a Rumble 75 and its great! Great for home use and for small gigs, not overkill and just right. How you like the squire p bass? I'm loving my Classic Vibe Jazz Bass.

Well, yesterday afterwork I went to Guitar Center as they started with their Labor Day sale yesterday and I went in there to purchase a pack of strings. Well, was browsing around and stumbled upon the Bass area and though...hmmmmm I need a bass to lay some bass tracks as the bass tracks that came with garageband sound pretty cheesy and limiting. Well, to make the the story short, I got me a basic bass setup with amp for $460 out the door, all new including the gig bag and the pack of strings I originally went to the store for [flapper] [flapper] [flapper] . Its a Fender Squire Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass and a Fender Rumble 75 watt amp. I'll be doing some videos soon over labor day weekend. I had to sneak all these new gear around the back of the house to my man cave without the Mrs. noticing [scared]

Pretty good haul, BG65!

I usually send my wife off to the shoe store before unloading any new gear from my truck......gives me time to stash it all and saves wear-and-tear on my ears.
