Hello,

I'm running a Fender Rhodes keyboard through my Bassman 100 silverface and want to know what the best way to record this setup is. I'm assuming from the scant knowledge I've got that micing with an SM57 or equivalent is the way to go, but I'm wondering if there's any way to line out directly from the head to a mixing board.(I don't own any instrument mics at the moment, and I've got no loot) I'm so woefully ignorant in the technical electronics realm that I don't know if I can use the speaker jacks. I do love my equipment, though, so I'm afraid to experiment.
Obviously, I need to expand my general knowledge of electronics and amplifiers. I also own a Hohner d6 and a Hammond c3/Leslie 122 combo. All of my equipment needs love and attention; I've been acquiring it all piecemeal over the past several years whenever I've been able to save up enough to buy a component. So I'm pretty much broke, but I have all of this beautiful vintage equipment, and I need to know how to maintenance it, customize it, and use it properly to unlock its full potential. Where's the best place to start to educate myself?

If your amp were a Bassman 135 you'd be in luck -- that chassis provides a 1/4" line-out recording jack......

It might be possible to add this feature to the Bassman 100 without too much difficulty -- a jack, two resistors, one cap, and some AWG18 wire are all it would take.

Compare this schematic to the one above......

I know you're strapped for cash but you can get a decent direct box for about $100. Then you could bypass the amp completely and be able to record any time you want without worrying about waking up the neighbors.

Thanks for the replies,

Adding the extra jack sounds like a great way to start my journey into the world of vintage electronics maintenance and repair. The DI is a good suggestion as well; it's a component I wasn't previously aware of. I'll probably wait til I've got some more loot and buy one that can work for me in multiple capacities, maybe a radial J48. Thanks again for your time and advice.

If you are thoroughly commited check out the Evil Twin D.I. it is a semi custom thing alot of the engineers I know really like them and they are based off the circutry of a Fender Twin Reverb.

When using a DI (on the speakercable) make SURE that it cannot drop or become loose, if it does, your amp goes to heaven!!!

I've just send my bassman to my tube-doctor.

He will make the following repairs/enhancements:

- new tubes 6l6 instead of the marshall 6551 tubes
- pre-amp tubes replaced with some telefunken instead of the marshalls
- add a line-out woth speaker simulation
- replace some caps and resistors
