I play a bass guitar.. and am looking for a good pair of headphones for output from a bass guitar amplifier. Most of the normal ones don't seem to be good in producing the bass o/p.

Sony MDR-V150. You'll be able to find them at your friendly neighborhood Walmart, $19.99 everyday low price. The pair I have I bought a long three years ago, still working. Yes, they're a bit blown out but, they only were $20.

I tried several types over the years and these still work for me.

I just saw a thread on this topic at talkbass.com. The Sony MDR7506 probably
gathered more recommendations than any other headphones.

Everyone I know loves them for low end reproduction and they all comment on how they don't give headaches after a short time.

Sony MDR7506 or Sony MDR7509HD or Sennheiser HD650 or Sennheiser HD800.

The MRD7506 is about 1/2 the cost of the MRD7509HD which is about 1/2 the cost of the HD650 which is about 1/2 the cost of the HD800 . :) .

All four sound good , pick your cost poison!
But do go audition them live somewhere before picking anything,

I've been using MDR7506 headphones in my studio for years. You can get better sounding ones and cheaper ones, but those that sound better are significantly more expensive and cheaper ones don't sound nearly as good.

The only problem is that the soft plastic covering the earpieces start to deteriorate after a few years, shedding plastic on your shoulders -- but that doesn't affect the sound.

Another option, if you're looking for bass reproduction, is the Carvin H44M headphone ($40+shipping) have good bass response. They're not accurate enough for studio work, but for your purposes they should be fine.

In another thread on home recording captainc recommended the Sennheiser HD 280 Pros
I've never listened to them so no idea how they compare to the others mentined so far. The price seems right :)

I'm wanting the sony MDR7509's but at double the cost of the MRD7506's will have to audition them alot more before decining on a pair, and suspect will probably settle on the MDR7506. (unless those Sennheiser HD280 really surprise me when I go to give them a listen.).

Also the application is definitely different, monitor bass vs recording.
