I need a new bass amp good for gigs and a lot of practice. Something complex and high-tech is what I'm looking for. I need it to be at least 30 WATTS or more. Any price will do, I don't have a budget. Please reply with reccomendations, the number of WATTS, who sells it and where, and the price.

Thanks!

What type of gigs are you going to be using this new amp for? That may dictate the size of the amp. Practice isn't as much of a problem as gigs when you choose an amp. Don't forget to factor in hooking up to a PA, or studio use for an all in one amp. 30 Watts won't go to far with a bass amp. 150 Plus get's you into a realistic range. Combo or stack style amps are part of the decision as well. Ampeg, Fender, Mesa, and Hartke are some good amps to start looking at for bass. I'm partial to Mesa myself. A lot of good amps out there. Have fun looking at all that gear.

Thanks! I'll start looking for a 150 Combo Mesa amp.

I've had quite a few bass amps, and currently own two: a Mesa/Boogie Walkabout Scout 1x15 I bought new in January, and a used Fender Bassman 400 I found about a month later. I can get a good bass tone out of either one, but the WAS is head and shoulders above every other amp I've owned, going back to 1981. On the other hand, I paid $400US for the Fender, and it's a good amp to leave at the rehearsal space. I get usable tones out of it, and the [loud] drummer can hear me, so it's a bargain.

Yes, and their warranties are exemplary. Mine had a bad volume pot. I shipped it back to Petaluma where they replaced the pot and upgraded the rest of the circuit to current specs -- all for the cost of shipping the head to them.

In the absence of Fender offering a Bassman Ultralite, I'm using an Eden WTX-500. 500 watts, 4.3 lbs. Yeah, daddy!

I think MF sells then for about $649

30 watts isn't going to get you much of a gigging bass amp, unfortunately. You need roughly 3-4x the amount of wattage of the guitar amp to come over the top properly. Bass amps need more power than guitar amps. You need at least 80-100 watts to compete with a Blues Junior or DRRI.

Maybe you meant 300 watts?

It sure would be great if someone (and I'm not averse to Fender: all but two of my seven amps, including one of my bass amps, are Fender) made an amplifier that didn't weigh a ton. My Mesa/Boogie is 65 lb, and my Bassman 400 is 80 -- not what this old guy needs to be toting around. So far, I haven't heard any of the lighter amps that can compare to these two. A friend has a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0/210T that has a wonderfully tight bottom end, and 47 lb, but it can't compare to the Walkabout Scout.

By the way. I have a Jazzmaster Ultralight guitar amp, which is about 30 lb with 250 watts, but amplifying bass frequencies is a whole 'nuther challenge from guitar.

In some cases, light is not always better. I'll take the extra weight for a superior sound and solid built gear. (Not a kid here either.) Casters or a hand truck. Choose your weapon.

That's it.

glbass, is the Indonesian Mesa as 'good' as the Viet Nam Ampegs?
