Just got a new TB600c and I am kinda lost. First time tube owner and it is taking some getting use to. Can someone in the most laymen terms explain the Passive Tone Stack. What I gather is it is all bass and treble and you can only cut the mids.

The tone stack is merely the circuitry used to adjust the frequency response of your signal (lows, mids, highs, etc.). By "passive," they mean that it consists entirely of passive components (i.e. components that do not amplify) like resistors and capacitors.

All tone stacks have some level of interaction between one adjustment and frequencies in the other bands. Download the application at the bottom of this page and see for yourself.

There is pretty much no getting around this. Some have noted that, in a Fender tone stack, you can only raise the mids so much. This is unlike some other tone stacks which may be able to significantly raise the mid-tones without also raising the bass or treble. The reality is that it is all relative. You can always boost mids by cutting bass and treble and raising the gain.

The bottom line is that you want what sounds best tonally to you. Personally, I love the Fender tone stack. The tone you get is like no other; I consider it a major "pro" when looking at the "pros and cons." I find it near impossible to get that awesome Fender tone from other amps. That application I mentioned above provides a visual display of how each is so very different. The resultant frequency response is much more complicated than just bass, mid and treble.
