I played my bassman 300 pro at my friends house, it's place of residency, tonight for the first time in about a month. For the life of me I couldn't find my "sweet spot" tone and the whole thing felt muddy and unresponsive the whole time. Is this a sign that it's time to get replacement tubes? I've never had to retube an amp before so I'm not sure what signs to look for. Help and opinions please. Thanks.

Yep- sounds like you need to take it in for a check up.

I had to change out 1 bank (2 tubes) a while ago, then had to change out all 3 banks (6 tubes). It wasn't cheap, but really made a big difference in sound and tone.

It would be worth your while to bring it to a good amp tech and have it checked out. They should give you a quote and call with a diagnosis before having to spend big $$$.

Thanks for the response. Pretty much what I was expecting to hear, and I'll try to get it in as soon as I can.

Thanks again

Chris
