What amps should I be looking at/trying out? I'm a beginner to intermediate player at home only. I'm currently using a Fender Frontman 25B amplifier. I'm looking to get something to still use at home, but gives me a little more BOOM and versatility.

Thanks!

I divide amps into three categories. The gategories are:
1. Practice amps for use at home.
2. Rehearsal amps for band rehearsals with other players including a cymbal happy drummer.
3. Gig Rigs.

No one amp or rig will fill all three needs for me as a general rule. There are several amps that fill the Practice and Rehearsal categories but fall short for real gigs.

For home practice I now use my pedal board to a mixer to my computer to headphones to play along to the tracks. The family appreciates that.

For rehearsal I want something barely large enough to be heard over the drummer because I'm not getting PAID to rehearse. Therefore why move more than I have to? Generally 75 to 100 watts is enough for rehearsals with my band which is all electric except for the drums.

For gigs I use a 450 watt head with a 2x10 on top of a 1x15 with a direct out to the PA that has two huge subs.

Basically my gig rig is a glorified stage monitor with the PA guy pulling up whatever he thinks is appropriate in the main mix. This is especially true outdoors where even if I had 2000 watts it would not be enough. Our mains are like 2000 watts per side and the sub amp is 5000 watts mono into two bins.

No bass is fed to the stage monitors at all in my crew so everyone on stage has to be able to hear the gig rig so they will know what to do. If we had 15 inch stage monitors I could just go direct I guess but we are using all 12 inch stage monitors. Seems all I ever hear in the monitors are the keys and the vocals, so I'd hate to depend on the monitors to hear what I'm doing since I can't hear the guitars.
