I am in the need of a good amp to start gigging with. I have been looking in the 200-300 dollar range does anyone have/or know of an amp that will be able to gig in that price range. Right now i am leaning towards the Behringer BXL1800 but havent been in a store to try any out yet.

Thanks

I don't know what kind of gigging you intend to do but I wouldn't hold much confidence in a bass amp that retails for less than $300.

What kind of gigging do you intend to do? The Rumble is okay for some small venues but depending on what kind of music you play and how big a room you expect to fill, it could be woefully inadequate.

For just starting out, you'll be okay with the Rumble 100. But you'll soon be looking for more IMO.

I have a similar question. I do not plan to gig at all just practice. I have been playing Guitar for almost 20 years and now I am thinking about getting into playing bass. I am not gigging nor am I in a band. I just want something small enough to practice/learn on (windows do not need to rattle yet). Types of music I want to relearn for bass are Metal, Blues, Classic Rock. Any suggestions?

Buy yourself something cheap and used. Get yourself comfortable with the instrument before you start thinking about developing your "sound". In my experience, I've found that the Fender Bassman 25 is a great little amp that pushes out nice clear tones with more power than you would expect from a 10" speaker and a mere 25 watts.

Guitars sound surprisingly good coming through them too. As a practice amp for bass or a guitar amp for small venues, it's a great value. It's a solid little amp but it's not heavy. They can be had on Ebay for about $100 plus shipping. The nice thing about these amps is that if you want to sell it for something larger, you'll get your investment back without a problem.

I've seen Fender BXR 100s going for $100-$120 on evilbay recently. Right now, the prices are down compared to about 2 weeks ago.

If you're looking just for bass heads, look into a SWR350 or SM400(S). The 350s are going for around $180, the SM400 or 400S go up to $250 and certainly have enough grunies for small to mid size gigs. Just make sure the SWR has the tube pre-amp. I've been gigging with an SM400s for years and it's served me well. You can always pick up Peavey amps on evilbay on the cheap too.
