Question- If the Fender Bassman 300 Pro has 3 banks of tubes and has 300 watts of power, I assume that each bank has 100 watts of power. I have read that the amp can run with a bank not working (blown tube).

If each bank has its own fuse, can I disconnect 1 bank and run this as a 200 watt amp? What about disconnecting 2 banks and running it as a 100 watt amp?

Can this be done?

If so, should it be done to get a warmer, fatter sound?

If you could let us know what your source of information was regarding operating with one set of 6550's out, perhaps we could assist better.

You can take a look at the FACTORY recommendations and operating procedures by clicking on "Owner's Manual" located on this page:

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0213302010

Fender has no authorized procedure listed to do what you are considering. I'm not saying that it is not possible, but the Factory has not mentioned it in their publications available elsewhere on this site.

There is an easier way to run your 300 watt amp as a 200 (or 100) watt amp.
Just turn down the master gain.

You can remove a power tube for reduced wattage. You will be able to push the power tubes harder and get more complex harmonic information in your output signal with much less volume. Turning the master volume down doesn't help to get a richer more complex sound.

how do I know this won't kill the amplfiier? I ran with a burned out tube for a few gigs without knowing it, until I noticed one of the lights was red.
