I've been in the market for one of these for 2 years on and off when the money is available, and everytime I have the cash to buy one, I can't get one anywhere. Guitar Center doesn't carry them, they're NEVER on ebay, and even craigslist only gets one within 2 states of me every few months. I've also hit up most fender dealers within 200 miles of me at least once. For the fact that this is supposed to be the top fender tube amp, and top bassman product, why can I never find one when I can't spit without hitting an SVT?

You must be looking for a used one huh? New ones are easy to find for around $1700. Here is a link to a new one. Good luck my friend!

When you have the money in hand then pay for it at your favorite Fender dealer and they will order one for you. Should take about 4 business days to get there at the most. Almost every dealer on the NEW GEAR page at my bass website has them in stock. Just go to the site in my signature below and click on the first red link which is: PURCHASING NEW GEAR ONLINE. They are awesome. I've played through the SUNN version of this amp at a couple of outdoor gigs and it is a tone beast! The amp started out as SUNN but is now branded FENDER. Same amp. Looks really cool too!

I've seen a few going 4 sale here in AUS. But occasionally the 4 sale section on TALKBASS.COM will have one.

Okay, my update is that I've found one for under a grand, which is what I wanted. Now, I've got a vintage bassman cab, gathering dust, in my basement. It's a 2x12 monster cab from the 70's that stands about 5 feet tall. I think it went with the old solid state series bassmans because theres holes on it where the head would screw into place. If anyones familiar with these cabs, would you say that a Bassman 300 pro is a decent enough match that I shouldnt' have to buy a new cab? I can't try it out because the head will be coming from across the country. Thanks.

The screw holes in the top don't necessarily mean it came from a solid state amp. All the old "piggyback" Bassman amps from '68 through the time they were discontinued in the early eighties, were tube amplifiers.

Getting back to your question though, the Bassman 300 will be very dissapointing to you if you use that particular cab. They weren't made for that head. The most powerful "old" Bassman cabs were rated at 135 watts. Plus, they weren't loaded with true woofer drivers. This explains the popularity of the old Bassman with guitarists today.

Thanks for the response. I pretty much had come to figure that my 2x12 wouldn't be the cab for me so I've been looking for a better cab all day. I thought I'd go with a Fender Pro cab, to match the head, but I was dissappointed to find the pro line starts at 6x10, not 4x10 which is closer to the size I wanted.

Do a little shopping around. Fender had a 410 pro bass cabinet until this year. You might find one at one of the on line sites. And since you've been looking for a used Bassman 300, you're lilkely to find a used 410 pro in your travels too.

Thanks again doowop14. I did in fact get my Bassman 300 pro the other day. It's being shipped from guitarcenter in Calafornia to my home in Illinois right now. And I do have a buddies Hartke 4x10 that he said he'd loan me until I find a cab of my own. I did see online that Fender makes 2 types of 4x10 one with carpet, and one with tolex, and I think the tolex one is the PRO model. Sonically I'm sure I'd be happy with either, but I lean towards the pro because I'm afraid to ruining a cab even on 3 or 4 with the bassman. I've never had an amp anywhere near this powerful.

Congratulations on your Bassman. I'm so jealous because I'd really love to have one of my own. As far as the Fender 410s are concerned, unless it says 410 pro, it's not a "pro". The tolex/carpet comparison doesn't wash. The standard 410 came in both. While you'd probably be ok with the standard, I'd look around for pro to match with that head. You'll be glad you did. BTW, don't judge your Bassman sound with the Hartke cab. They are made to be very crisp and really won't accentuate the mellow beauty of the 300.

Good luch!

Thanks again. Yes, I realized such about the cosmetics of the cab shortly after posting. I'm afraid I can't find one though. Lots of the other cab, no pros to be found online anywhere. :(

If you'd like one of your own, they have one at guitarcenter.com, under "used gear", just use bassman 300 as your search and it'll come up. It's in corpus christi for $899, which is a steal, even without the footswitch.

While that is a great price, at this point in time, that's not doable for me. But I'll get one some day. Just not yet.
