i've sort of inherited an old acoustic 360 rig. it worked for a little while, then all of a sudden just quit on me. i've had the head checked out, and it's fine, fuses are good. anybody with sage words of wisdom? also, the cone doesn't appear to be the orginal(considering the mount is bigger than the cone, and it's been rigged in). i'm not terribly familiar with this rig, but i know it to be a great piece of history, and i'd like to see it make music again.

Have you tried it with a different cabinet and it worked fine?

If yes then you probably just need to repair a wiring issue or at the most replace the speaker or speakers. There are speaker rebuilding shops in most major cities. In Charlotte NC there is a shop called SPEAKER DOCTOR which is where I'd take it if it was mine.

US SPEAKER is a good source for a replacement. 15 Inch Eminence rated 300 watts is 120 dollars. .

The Acoustic 360 amp had an 18" speaker in its cabinet and the cabinet also was powered in some fashion.

I don't know how intact your amp/cabinet is but I would look for another amp in the cabinet if you have not already done so.

I remember talking to a bassplayer who had one of these cabs catch fire in the back of his van after a gig. The cabinet needs some sort of ventilation to cool down.

This was in the early 70's, when I didn't have two nickles to rub together, so I never owned one of these amps to know the truth about them..

my cab is pretty intact, but again, i know the cone in it isn't the original. after some more research, i've learned that there is an amp in the cab. tonight i was playin with it a bit and discovered that if i just run my bass directly into the cab, it plays fine. however, when i run the bass through the head and into the cab, the sound is about awful. completely distorted. makes it sound like it has a blown cone.

when i had the head checked out, and the dude said it was fine, i don't think he actually tried it out, i think he just plugged it in and checked that components were getting electricity.

that's awesome/terrible about it catching fire. makes for a good story at least. i'll keep an eye on that, and maybe travel with a little fan hehe.

It sounds like a mismatch in the way the amp connects to the cabinet.
The amp is overdriving the cabinet amp. Perhaps you should look at the inputs/outputs on the amp/cabinet and see if you are using the right jacks.

I can't begin to tell youwhat to look for but I would suspect that the amp must have a diffferent way to connect to the cab-amp so that you don't get the distortion.
