Yeah, and blow out the windows and your ear drums. If you have any household pets, they'd disappear under the bed for a week. So what one is your favorite?

That's like asking a mother which of her fourteen kids is her favorite.

Yeah, I figured as much. Heh. I wouldn't know what to do if I had all of those. Maybe just pull up a seat and stare at them for awhile like art in a museum, before I even plugged any in. I've always loved the aesthetic on Fender amps, as much as the sound of them.

Fender didn't make the Bassman 135 tube amp for very long. End of an Era. What followed were some very troubled times. Nice piece of history you got there Arjay.

Indeed. I think the 135-watt version debuted in 1978 and was discontinued at the end of the '81 model year. Late examples from the final run returned to quasi-blackface cosmetics before production ceased altogether.

I had a '76 Silverface Bassman 10 that I quite liked, but it just wasn't loud enough. Bought a Fender Studio Bass amp in '79 and used it exclusively until I sold it to an old drummer friend of mine in 2007. It's in his studio to this very day. Foolishly I traded the Bassman 10 in on it for pittance.

Back when I was gigging regularly in the 80's with my hard rock band, having a powerful bass rig was the thing to do. Fender was not known for power. I ended up buying a GK 800RB and ran it bi-amped with 2x15 and a 1x12 cab. It was a formidable rig.

The wisdom of small rig on stage seemed too vulnerable. Your sound was completely in the hands of the sound person and through incompetence, inexperience or a maladjusted personality, one could end up being seen but not heard.

I have grown in certain ways, old and weaker not being one of them. Trust has grown. Things are what they are...........sometimes. I can handle it.

My last gig was with my Bronco. There was no drummer but another guitar and piano in a big room. I was very happy with my stage sound and playbacks indicate the room sound was good to decent. I enjoyed myself. It is why I play.

The ladies gave me more compliments on my leggings than my bass playing. At 59, I'll take it. I know I played well.

I guess Ampeg and Sunn had things pretty well wrapped up by then. I've heard good things about the new Bassmans. Let's hope that Fender will keep them in production. Otherwise, they will be worth their weight in gold before too long.

+1

And Acoustic as well.

One of the most popular rigs where I lived back then was the Sunn Concert Bass head with their 215S or 6 x 10 cab. But the bass players with deeper pockets usually sprang for the Acoustic 370/371.

And what's happened to Acoustic? Their products appear to be made very cheaply nowadays.

I had an Acoustic 360 before my GK. I liked it a lot. So did whoever stole it from the stage.

That's a rather large rig to just walk off the stage...

 Oh! Did I tell you? The 69 Bassman is great for guitar with the VT15 cab. Not so great for bass. I paired it up with a Rumble 4x10 cab it really sings now with a Jazz Bass.

Of course, there was this beast: Image

I've read the chassis alone weighed about as much as a Twin Reverb. 435 watts of tube power when you run 3 of those cabs. Nice for those intimate coffee house gigs.
