Greetings,

I am the owner of a Rumble 40 and the OD channel does not do anything when engaged. No light, knobs do nothing etc. Everything else works just fine. Switcher does nothing. I looked inside and could find no loose wires or clips.

Is there a possible broken solder joint or something? which would be the best way to test this? I am not under warranty since it is purchased 2nd hand. Otherwise its in perfect condition.

Thank you for the schematic. That might be good to have. I am still interested to hear if anyone else out there has had a problem with the overdrive on this amp failing.

Thank you in advance,

David

In the nearly 1200 member Fender Rumble Club I can't recall reading where just the Overdrive has failed, though I'm sure it must have happened sometime.

There were a couple of false alarms where the whole amp seemed to fail. But, turns out they just had the Drive & Level turned down to zero with the OD engaged, which acts as a mute! But, you've tried those knobs and that's not it, right?

One possible long shot might be to run a 1/4" plug in & out of the Footswitch jack several times to maybe clean off some corrosion that might could be keeping it disengaged? (Iffy enough?) Couldn't hurt. Worth a try.

Otherwise, a Fender Authorized Service Center may be your only hope, other than a cheap-o OD pedal.

Good luck!

Check the operation of Q6. Try replacing C29. This is the switching circuit

I will see if I can get to this with my limited expertise.

Thanks,

At first I thought it was a 2 channel amp. Yes I did read as many posts as I could find about the overdrive and it would act as a mute when engaged. So I guess this is the only post. It doesn't mute when engaged.

This is not the end of the world. Just hoping its a simple fix. Fun little amp and extremely light is why i got it.

Thanks for the help.

You have 3 choice
1- You order parts Q6 anc C29
a- you do the job yourself if only you have the habit to work with solid state/ transistor
b- you ask to a tech to replace these 2 parts ; 1 hour labour ?

2- You bring the amp to a tech and...wait and see.

3- You buy a overdrive pedal

Thank you for posting that Stratle. I couldn't find them. Yea, A tech would be a good idea if he can afford it.

TIm is a great tech follow his advice, good chance he is right
If I was you, I'll order parts and bring them to a tech asking to replace them only.

You should not forget that "repairing" an amp without being on site, not having it in front either to take readings is not 100% guaranteed success.

To repair this type of amp, it requires real tech, not a handyman as we meet too often.
And above all, do not pay the tech before trying your amp in his workshop before coming home,

Thanks for all the responses.

I should be good to go now if I want to have it repaired.
