That's true, they aren't too far from there, either. You do have a point about the cold and snow. I suspect it probably won't be too bad down there. It's been pretty cold around here today, and we're supposed to get some snow tomorrow, but I think only an inch or so. So far this year, no friggin' blizzards. I tell you, I'd rather deal with the heat, then the cold. It's a lot easier to cool off than to warm up, I think. I also know what you mean about the hurricanes. I know you've been in many of the path of that crap. I've been pretty lucky, as far as that's concerned. We got nailed one year and lost power a couple of days, but no damage to us directly. We've had worse crap dealing with winter crap and losing power or gas during that. Then you have to deal with the cold on top of that.

The bad thing about the Hurricanes now as compared too when I was kid living here, too much warning. These days the damn storm system is just off the coast of Africa, and they tell where it's pretty much going, giving everyone time too get ready for it, but also to get anxiety from it too. It's like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun for a week to ten days before it gets here. In the early 60's, there was maybe 3-4 days warning of an impending storm on its way.

I suppose that's also good that you do know ahead of time, instead of being caught off guard, but I know what you mean about having to deal with it before it hits.

That's not saying a Tornado is a piece of cake either.

Yeah, I know. I don't know which one is more destructive. Hopefully, we'll never have to ever find out.

You know that's right.
I did see some of the devastation in south Miami-Dade County about a year after Andrew hit. Some neighborhoods were vaporized, like they literally took a nuclear blast. I called where the houses were, Thresholds to nowhere. The walkways to the front doors were there, as were the foundations for the houses. But that was it. Totally leveled, like they really were vaporized. The kinda spooky thing about this as we drove further south, the devastation visible, increased. Trees were bent over more, showing the direction of the winds. Until the trees were less, and less, to finally no trees were standing. Very sobering to say the least.
Andrew was supposed to do a direct hit to my area in south PBC. When we went to bed at 12:30 AM that morning. And then it did its fateful turn do west sometime after, sparing our location. A Cat. 5.

I remember when that happened down there. You were certainly lucky with that one.

Yeah,........ we were real lucky to only get some periphery from the outer bands up where we are. We were lucky also with Doria that took out parts of the Bahamas.

Not so lucky for the Bahamas, unfortunately. They got hit really bad down there, that's for sure. I suppose there isn't really a safe place around as far as nature is concerned.

Yeah, and nothing you can do about it either. Some areas have less building codes requirements than others do. So when a storm does hit, the structural damage is more devastating. But that doesn't mean that much of almost anything for the category 5 plus that hit the Bahamas.

Yeah, that's really devastating power coming down on you, and it's all around you, as well.

And to make it even worse for the Bahamas, the storm basically halted its forward movement, and stayed over top of them for a day or so.

I know. That certainly made that a lot worse than if it just ripped through there. I don't even know what shape they are these days with any recovery efforts, and reconstruction. I imagine it's still pretty messed up around there, though.

That's the same way I'm at with my knowledge of the conditions in the Bahamas. Talk about being being totally leveled, Geez.

I don't know, maybe they come out with stronger building materials someday that can withstand that, but I suppose there isn't much you can do against Mother Nature when she's pissed off.
