Yeah, unless you're careful with them, but anything can happen on stage, I suppose.

Just for a bit of extra precaution with the newer, small light weight amp heads, I'd use Velcro to hold them in place for on top of the cab. Better than nothing at all. I actually have seen more disasters to gear in practices, and studio sessions, then on live stage performances.

That's actually a good idea for those. My Ampeg is or seems pretty sturdy, so I'm not too worried about that one. I mean it's not as heavy as those old school amps, but it's not actually a tiny featherweight like that Trace Elliot, or whatever. Still, I wouldn't want to find out how sturdy it is by dropping it, either.

A yeah,........ Dropping it wouldn't be at the top of my list either. Just off the top of my head, the Velcro seems to be a serious way of holding a head to a cab top.

I take it using the thicker, heavy duty stuff would be best, then?

The heavier, the better.

Yeah, that would make sense.

Without mounting some type of bracket to the head, and cab that's about it. The Ampeg PF series does make sense for the design of holding a head in place on a cab top.

Do you think that Ampeg is something I'll need to worry about with that? It does seem pretty secure with the cab, and I do have a lot of slack with the cables going into it.

I don't think your 800 is going anywhere. I don't think you'd have a vibration issue either. And if you do have enough cord, you've got it kicked. A good trick some Roadies do, they shorten the head to cab cord on the back of the units, with electrical, or duct tape. When it's tight after being twisted, or rolled around, and taped to itself, that holds the head from being pulled off of the front of the cab. Big twist tie, or plastic strapping works ok too. I did that, and showed others that little trick. A five foot cord is shortened to whatever length it needed to be down to, with out cutting, and splicing it. Image

I've had to tie up my speaker cable, because the damned thing is 25 long. I know that's a ridiculous length for a speaker cable for an amp going into a cab, but the reason I got it, besides it being Speakon to 1/4", which I needed for the Orange head at the time, is it was a hell of a deal that I couldn't pass up. I suppose that if I ever needed a long speaker cable, I do have it, though.

Yeah,....... that's pretty damn long. But if it works, that's the real deal.

Yeah, I think that sort of cable was intended for PA cabs that needed to be spaced out on a stage, or whatever. I suppose the cool thing about it is I could do the same thing, if I had two cabs. Have one with the head on one end, and the other on the end of a room, for a sort of stereo effect. I don't know if that would be practical or not, but at least I could do that. Of course, I'd also need another cab, as well.

I know, 25' is a long one to work with for short connections.

Yeah, the cable was on sale for like $10, so you probably can see why I jumped on it. Those Speakon cables aren't usually cheap.
