That 1484 amp is particularly very cool. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/amplifie ... /1484.html They say that's for guitar or bass use, and it was loaded with 12" Jensen speakers. That was probably like their version of maybe something like a Fender Bassman. There was also the 1485 with 6 x 10" Jensens. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/amplifie ... /1485.html

The 1484 was the Silvertone I had. It was a used amp that was pretty beat when I got it. It could be used for bass in the earlier 60's bass style. It was not an ideal setup for the impending heavier rock on the horizon. It was intended for use by a 6 stringer in one channel, and a bass in the other. It didn't handle Cream, Blue Cheer, or The Who well at all.

My lead guitarist had a Silvertone 1484 and he found me a used one to play rhythm in our high school garage band. I recall letting our bass "owner" try playing thru mine (the lead wouldn't) to see how it went while I controlled his channel. Not good, at all! Nope! That was the end of that!

So, he managed to talk his dad into trading his little I-don't-even-remember-what bass-ish amp for the Silvertone 1466 bass amp! 150 SS watts thru 6x10" speakers was pretty good, but no reverb or trem. Then, our lead wank..., uh, ... guitarist wanted to swap with him!!

Occasionally, when the bass guy managed to hit some correct notes at the right time, and the drummer was tired enough to not play everything at 200bpm, the two 1484s and the 1466 blended together quite well!

It was our bass "owner's" little brother that could really play. He got their dad to get him a Vox Super Beatle, which his whole band plugged into! Our band once played a double bill with them and they talked us into plugging into the Vox for our set! But it didn't really work very well. For that matter his band didn't sound very good that way either.

But, it was the bands with matching Fender blackface amps, with cool blue jewel lights that had us all drooling! Man!!! And nothing sounded as good as that Fender reverb!

Yeah, looking back, the Silvertones were better than we gave them credit for at the time. See a lot of name players have them these days.

I was always amazed at how many 1484's were used as PA's with a second cab back then. I thought they did pretty good, until Kustom brought out their PA. The Shure PA I thought was ok as well, but I chose the Kustom PA for band setups.

I was looking at that 1466 bass amp, and that was pretty big for the time. 150 watts, and 6 x 10" speakers. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/amplifie ... /1466.html

Yeah, that was getting up there for the mid to late 60's.

That's true. I'll bet no one could imagine what was to come. I remember thinking 30 years ago about the first time I saw a 400 watt amp and thinking that was something massive.

Yeah, I'd certainly say that, with those 1000 watt monsters and more.

All the options available now as well. Pretty cool, and the 800 watt heads are damn nice. Some 1,000 watt heads are ok too.

Yeah, there certainly is quite a bit out there these days, especially in the bass department. We've come a long way from 50 watt general purpose heads, although those can still be cool in certain circumstances.

Yeah, but I'm not going to plug in an accordion into one these days.

You know, oddly enough, I've actually seen someone play an accordion through a Marshall amp, many moons ago. They weren't a polka band, either.
