I think the speakers also contribute to the volume output, as well. Wasn't the Bassman eventually 135 watts? Didn't they call it a Super Bassman, or Bassman II, and it came with two cabs? You know the amp I'm talking about? I think it came out in the late 60's, or maybe going into the early 70's, but then they also had the 400PS rig, which was a monster.

Whatever happened to that amp, do you remember?

No, I really don't. I lost track of the Fender Bassman amps for a good while. I started working doing road work, and didn't see to much more than the gear I handled.

I do have a copies of some old Fender catalogs from the 60's into the 70's, which does list those amps, in my computer. I should take a look at them again and check it out.

I think that may have been about that time where Fenders were getting so high in price where a lot of players were going to alternative amps. I know I was getting into the Traynor head for a bit.

Yeah, I suppose they weren't the cheapest to begin with, were they? That's probably why Silvertone and things like that were popular in the 60's, I suspect.

Silvertones were great working amps for a more reasonable price. A lot of bands used Silvertones for PA's. I had one with 2X12's.

Oh yeah, there's even a website dedicated to them. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/default.html

The Silvertones were a well made amp. The one I had, was one of the models that had two separate channels on it.

It's probably listed on that site.

It probably is. I'll have to look it up.

That 1484 amp is particularly very cool. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/amplifie ... /1484.html They say that's for guitar or bass use, and it was loaded with 12" Jensen speakers. That was probably like their version of maybe something like a Fender Bassman. There was also the 1485 with 6 x 10" Jensens. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/amplifie ... /1485.html

The 1484 was the Silvertone I had. It was a used amp that was pretty beat when I got it. It could be used for bass in the earlier 60's bass style. It was not an ideal setup for the impending heavier rock on the horizon. It was intended for use by a 6 stringer in one channel, and a bass in the other. It didn't handle Cream, Blue Cheer, or The Who well at all.

Yeah, I imagine not, but I'd think it would be cool as a house amp, or recording type thing. They're worth some money these days, I think.

They really were a fine amp. One of the best items I thought could be bought at a Sears store, or through the Sears Catalog back then. A tube amp.

Yeah, they seemed to have been quite the amp, considering.
