Who knows? Still, there's something also about an old school amp, as well. I know we mentioned Marshall, but I'm also thinking about some Fender amps, like a Showman head, or Bassman. Maybe because I've been listening to, or watching Beatles, and Paul McCartney solo/Wings stuff lately, and have been seeing that in the videos. :P I know I'm probably better off with the Ampeg, or the Rumble 800 for a lot of stuff, because of the power and portability, but it doesn't mean that old stuff can't be used for things, too. The only problem is it's a lot more friggin' expensive to get and hopefully not have to maintain, as well. It's not like I'd want to gig with it heavily, or at all, anyway.

I know, I've talked myself out of tube amps over, and over again. They are I guess the best in a studio, bar none these days.

I suppose if I had the means, I'd have all kinds of amps like that. Why not? Who's to say you have to just have one, and one type only?

I agree, there's that stupid, silly little thing called money, getting in the way of our amp NEEDS!!! I myself would opt for a Super Bassman, and the V-4B. The Ampeg V-4B did have an interesting tone, and was damn loud for 100 tube watts.

Yeah, those are nice amps, too. I'll bet that Super Bassman was quite the beast, being 300 watts tube. I guess that was Fender's answer to the SVT, although they did put out that 400PS, which was 435 watts tube, but with three cabs running to get it. Imagine running that thing full blast.

It didn't hurt when Fender acquired Sunn either.

Yeah, that's where Fender got a few of their amps from when they did, and shut it down. They were rebadged Sunn amps.

To me, that was one of the most blatant buy, ravage, and take down in corporate history. At that time, the Sunn was so superior to almost any other amp. Including Fender.

Yeah, I remember we've had discussions about that and other companies on this very forum. It's a shame it was shut down like that. At least a company like Guild was sold to someone who kept it going, and they are still making stuff.

That's right. Fender just can't handle any other competition. If their product is that damn good, prove it against the others. Fender could have been making money on the Sunn name by backing the product, and not destroying it. Whirlpool Corporation, owns Maytag, and a few other big name companies that are in direct competition with their name product. They know what they're doing. My confidence in Fender as a corporation, not good.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I still do like their amps. That's one area I've never had any issue with.

Other than the early Bassman 500 heads, I'd agree with that.

Yeah, I remember you had those that were lemons. I suppose that can happen from time to time. I remember when Ampeg had that issue, as well. It seems like they got that ironed out for some time, though. You didn't have any issues with the Bassman 800, did you?

No, I had no issues with any Fender, or Rumble amps. I had no trouble with the Rumble 800HD what so ever. If I were to get into a cab that could mix with one, the Rumble 800 would be it.

I guess it must have been bad luck with that one particular amp. Did you ever hear about anyone else having an issue with one of those at the time?
