Yeah, that stuff can be quite heavy. The Rumble 350 combo is encased with it, and when they made the 3rd generation combos with plywood, it knocked off pretty much half the weight, I noticed. I suppose the one advantage of it, is that it does seem to resonant bass frequencies very well. I have noticed that. Maybe it has to do with it's density?

Yep. The density is definitely what I believe gives it a nice sound.

I know that pretty much any bass I've played through the Rumble has always sounded good, but then again, Fender amps do typically have a good sound to them.

Yes, Fenders do have a good sound. If they were more in line with what I wanted, I'd be using a Fender amp. Too late, I found the Hartke.

I know what you mean. I think they've also been a little too late with stuff, like the Rumble 800. If only they'd put that out a little sooner, I would have gotten one, but you know how that goes. I guess if something happens to the Ampeg, like I've said before, I'd certainly consider that, now that's it's here. So what was it about the Fender that you thought was lacking?

The Fender amps aren't lacking to me, it's exactly what you said, " I think they've also been a little too late with stuff," The Rumble series, and Fender in General, doesn't offer affordable 4 ohm cabs that I prefer. The Hartke HyDrive 112b cab is what I like. I don't want the two 8 ohm cabs, to make up the 4 ohms for getting the full wattage from the head.

That's true, there is the whole cab situation, with the ohms and watts, etc. I've pondered a lot of that, myself. Although, I have to say I do have a pretty good match up with the Ampeg PF-800 and the Fender Rumble 4 x 10" cab, and the weight of that cab isn't that heavy, in comparison to a lot of other 4 x 10" cabs I've looked at. The Eminence speakers in it sound pretty decent, too. I mean I don't have those HyDrive or the XL aluminum cone ones like you have with the Hartke, and would be very cool to have, but they do their job rather well. Oh, speaking of Eminence, the president of the company sent me a friend request, and I added him on Facebook the other day. Who knows, maybe I can work out some endorsement deal with them? :P

I have no problem with Eminence. They offer a pretty wide selection of replacements. You never know what can come around on a contact like that with him. I did like the sounds the Ampeg SVT-410HLF Heritage cab had, with the USA made Eminence 10's.

Yeah, that did seem like a nice cab. Speaking of which, Ampeg is having another refurbished sale on their website, where they have various amps and cabs pretty cheap. If I had the money, I'd certainly look into one of those cabs, like that 2 x 12" cab they have, which you had, or maybe the Portaflex 15" cab, which you can attach the PF-800 head to, and store it inside of it. I really don't need it, I suppose, but it would be kind of nice to have a matching cab. I think they also wanted $479 for the 2 x 12" cab, which is a pretty good price, I think. What was that new, $600 or so?

The Ampeg SVT-212AV new goes for $699. A nice cab.

Then that's a pretty good discount for it. They say it's refurbished items, so I don't know what could have happened to it, other than maybe the speakers getting blown in it, or some cosmetic damage, which probably wouldn't classify under that, unless they put new Tolex (or whatever they use for it,) or the speaker grill fabric.

That is a good price for that. Like you say, it could be about anything on it needing to be refurbished on it. Unless they specify what is refurbished, it could be hard to tell.

Well, as far as that goes, if I had the money and/or the need, I'd probably pass on the refurbished amps, unless they had some sort of guarantee or warranty, which is why I like to buy stuff through AMS, because they do,) but I think the cabs would be a safe bet, since what are they when you think about it? It's a wooden box and speakers, so what's there really do go wrong, other than having to replace a speaker, which is usually pretty simple. It's not like you'd have to worry about any internal electronics, like an amp, and unless you're a tech, there isn't much you can do about that, if there's an issue.

I would have to believe the refurbished new gear, would have a manufactures warranty.

Maybe it does, since you are getting it directly from the company. I didn't look to see if it did. I did notice that they had a PF-800 there for $379.99, which is $110 less than even what I paid for the one I got from AMS, but mine was just an open box model, or something like that. It wasn't refurbished.

I wouldn't know which would be better, or equal between the two. As long as they have a warranty, I guess that's pretty important. That is a fine price on the PF-800. That's only $80.00 more than what I paid for the HA2500
Hartke.
