I would think they are for that part of it anyway.

I noticed that you changed the title of this thread twice. You planning on getting another amp?

Yeah, I did. I stayed with Hartke. Using the HA2500 / 112b. The HA2500 is 250 Watts @ 4 ohms. The HyDrive 112b is a 4 ohm cab, with no HF Driver. It's $100.00 less with out the HF Driver, that I never really wanted anyway. This setup is 100 watts more than the HD150, and has a HyDrive 12". It's also a ported cab. And a 10 Band EQ.

That's pretty cool. 8) I've looked into that amp before. It's also 180 watts into 8 ohms, which doesn't matter, since you have a 4 ohm cab. That was the one cab I was looking at, but the problem was the fact it was 4 ohms, and I'd be putting 800 watts into it, not necessarily meaning I'd even crank it. It would be less risky if it were 8 ohms, because then it would be 400 watts into the 300 watt cab. That head you have is perfect for it. It also has a nice EQ section on it. I've never played through that particular model, but it's the same set up as the other one I did try out. It's interesting that they kept the silver finish on that, when they changed back to black for the HA3500 model, and also changed the HA5500 model to black, when they still made it.

You're RIGHT ON about the 4 ohms of the cab not working well with every head, since it's a 300 watts cab. The Ampeg SVT-212AV is a 4 ohm cab, @ 600 watts. I had to watch what head I paired up with it also. The 180 watts @ 8 ohms is ok. It's a bit over the 150 watts the HD150 combo works with. 250 Watts is a decent safe power, on the lower side for my room. It's a realistic setup. I've been toning down a bit lately anyway.

I haven't had a chance today to power it up, and get into the 10 band EQ this little Monster has. I got thinking about the differences between the TX300, and this HA2500. 50 Watts didn't seem to be that much to sacrifice to have the 12 HyDrive, with the 10 band EQ. I'm liking the slide EQ on these Hartke's. The HA2500 is $30.00 less than the TX300. My playing can get along fine without a compact head for travel.

Ironic that the Hartke amps are taking hold of how I like the sounds. At least with this Player Jazz.

You know, I think that head and cab setup are perfect for you. It's actually the same amount of power as the biggest Kustom amp was in the 60's, the 500 series, which was also 250 watts RMS and 500 watts peak, but you don't have those huge 2 x 15" or 3 x 15" speaker cabs going with it, being the only difference, probably. Plus, you got that HyDrive cab, which are pretty proficient , so it's not like you couldn't rattle any windows, if you wanted to. It also has a nice look to it, too. Like it means business. 8)

I POWERED it up today. Yes you're right about the Kustoms I liked back then. They were right at the same power levels. Having had the HD150 EQ to basically go by, the HA2500 EQ was very close to setup. The 112b cab is really sweet. A lot of the combinations of half stacks I had previously had, were fine. This one beats em' all. The 112b cab, and HA2500 head have such a nice low, clear, crisp tone. The 10 Band EQ is fine. I do like the HyDrive 12".

Sounds pretty good. 8) You have a lot of decent features going on with your rig there, as well. I like the fact that you also have the option of a tube or solid state preamp, or run them both, which is what what I did, when I played through the HA3500 head. Why not utilize both? So how are you liking it so far, compared to the combo?

I do like it a lot more than the combo. I have it set using both tube, and the s s preamp. Priority to the tube.

I imagine the tube sounds even better when it warms up more. I don't think you have to have that on standby, though, do you? I don't remember that with that amp, but I did with the Orange head.

There is no standby on it. There may be a slight delay as it powers up. That's about it.

Well, at least you don't have to wait. I noticed your EQ settings, that you don't use much high frequencies, do you?

No I don't. The tone setting on the Jazz is about the same. How low can you go? Well actually just a bit up on the Jazzes tone setting, but not a lot.

You don't have your controls wide open on the Jazz?

No, I have the tone just a bit lower, or at 1/4 from the highest bass tone. Meaning the Treble is 3/4 down.
