I think the 12" cab is somewhat meant for the TX300 head. That would be a nice setup. The TX600 head I had went well with the HD210 cab I had at the time. I know it gets a bit sticky when trying to balance out whether to do 8 ohms, or 4 ohms on the cab, or cabs with what head. It's kinda' like having bees in your head. I feel my brain is a well used bee hive.

I remember you having that rig. I guess the best way to do it, is at least a close approximation between amp and cab. The whole ohms thing can be a pain in the arse, because you don't want to kill your amp. At least now they are offering amps that can run at 2 ohms, which is quite useful, and gives you a lot more options for using cabs.

The more options available, the better it is.

That's true, although 300 watts at 4 ohms doesn't give you too many, even with a 2 ohm ability, say like the Rumble 800 has. Sure you could run it with another cab, but that will still be risky by itself, since it is 4 ohms, and that would make 800 watts going into it. They do make another 12" HyDrive cab that has switchable ohmage, but it's $399.99 new. You used to be able to get a XL410 cab for that, or $100 cheaper. I was looking to make sure, and I just noticed that they aren't carrying that cab anymore. AMS doesn't have one, Guitar Center just has used Hartke gear, and Sweetwater doesn't have one, either. Sam Ash seems to have one, but I've heard that site isn't as updated as it should be. That's strange, since I thought they just announced a new version of that cab. Maybe it's still not released yet, and they're just not showing anything. Also, I didn't know Guitar Center no longer carried Hartke. When did that happen?

It's hard to figure when, and why a line get's dropped from a store chain. GC really didn't carry Hartke for that long. It may be somewhat like SA dropping GK, a year or so ago. I've heard Hartke is a store based brand for SA, the way Acoustic is for GC. I do believe Hartke's combos. and cabs are made with wood, not MDF like Acoustic is.

That's interesting that Sam Ash and Gallien Krueger parted ways, since it used to seem that was a prominent brand with them, or maybe that was just my perception of it. I wonder what happened there? Out of curiosity, I looked up Sam Ash and they actually only have 45 locations throughout the US with those in the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Nevada, Illinois, Arizona, California, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, and Georgia. Not really a hell of a lot, when you think of a huge chain store, like Guitar Center, but maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing, since we've gotten better, more professional service at Sam Ash, and not so much at Guitar Center. They are still family owned, too. I just wish they were closer, but when we go play New York, they're right there. In fact, you have the original one there, but we usually went to the one in White Plains, which is near where we have a place to stay when up there, and sometimes getting around New York City can be a cluster you know what. Although, not nearly as bad as Boston. At least it's a grid, and if you don't have GPS and haven't lived in Boston your whole life, you're kind of screwed.

The one thing interesting that I've noticed about MDF, at least for the Rumble combo, is its does carry and project bass frequencies quite well. That's the only amp I've played the violin bass through and sounds really good without having to use any external pedals, like the MXR, or other EQ issues, like I used to have with that. Maybe it has to do with it's density?

MDF is softer than real wood so it's not as boomy like wood is at times. For the inside of a cab it works like a foam, or an egg carton insulation. It's just no where near as strong as wood, as we discussed before.

45 Locations is pretty good. GC has too many. They're spread too thin financially. And,........ they hire some of the stupidest mother f*#@'s they can locate on the planet. And,........ maybe a few Klingons to round things out.

Yeah, MDF can be a bit sketchy in the durability department, but so far, so good with that.

I know Guitar Center bought out a few places, like Musician's Friend, Music123, and Woodwind & Brasswind, several years back, as well. I think there's another place, as well, but I don't remember the name, offhand. Basically, any site that selles Rogue, Acoustic, and Mark Bass is definitely owned by them, since those are their house brands, or about the only people that sells that stuff. How many actual stores do they even have, I wonder? They seem to be all over the friggin' place, like Walmart, which we used to call them the Walmart of music stores. :P

Actually, I'd rather deal with Walmart, anytime over them. I've never had any issues shopping there, at least the ones I've gone to. The people that work there seem to be pretty chill. Ironically, you can buy musical gear from Walmart.com, from various vendors, I think one of which is Music123. I've ordered Rotosound strings from Walmart.com before.

They've been predicting Guitar Center's doom for a few years now, but they seem to be still around, so who knows what the hell is up with that. To be honest, I don't know if that's a good or bad thing if they finally tanked, because then if they did, then what's left, at least for brick and mortar shopfronts around? What would replace them, if anyone? Plus, a lot of people would lose their jobs, jackasses, or not. I'd rather them stay there, then deal with them at a place I actually frequent to do business. :P

I agree, I hope they stay solvent in the music market place. Even if it was the large mega music store concept, that put down so many of the mom and pop shops. GC wasn't I don't believe, the first mega music store anyway. I think one of the early ones was Planet Music, or something like that. And yes there are some competent associates in GC stores.

Well, as far as I know, they haven't been shutting down any of their stores, so who really knows what's going on with them? I guess time will tell with all of that.

With GC, I don't know either. They opened up one of their smaller size stores about 8-10 months ago in Delray Beach, about six, to seven miles north of me.

I suppose if they are opening stores, that must mean something. Either that, or it's some money laundering scheme going on. :P

Well, if it keeps kids interested in buying and playing instruments, then why knock it? At least it keeps music alive, in some way or another. Why be negative about it, if you don't like going there? It's not like they ripped you off for thousands of dollars, or something like that. If that were the case, then yeah, I could see that. I guess what I'm getting at, is there really isn't a point in bitching about certain stuff, because all it does is wind up weighing you down with negativity. I've realized I've pissed away a lot of years of my life doing that, and it didn't do me any good, just made things worse.

On the positive side for at least some of the local GC's in my area, They do a decent price on some pricing for buying basses, as compared to SA at times. I seem to have a pretty good idea in my head for how much an item is worth when selling, or trading in. There are the typical occasions however when they are low balling way too low. Then I go to SA.
I'll have to say the best deals I ran into lately, were from SA. The Player Bass reduced pricing made it possible for me to purchase it, and the same for the Hartke, being on sale at just the time I really needed a price break on that one too.
