Why's that? You not liking the 12"s after all?

I just liked HyDrive sound over the Eminence. And the 15 sounded, at least to me, what I like better with the SB. The HyDrive 15 has a nice tight sound.

Wow, that's interesting. Maybe you're just tuning in with your inner Jack Bruce, since he was the inspiration for that speaker to begin with. I have to say, those aluminum speaker cabs do sound pretty damn good, from what I remember playing through them. I never tried the HyDrive models, but the original all aluminum ones. The reason I never got one, was they've never had any I could get a deal on at the time, when I needed it. Although, I think they might have dropped the prices on them, since they've also put out a revamped series, based on the original cabs.

I was sitting here after recalling the MSG happening with you, and I realized for the first, and only time in my life, playing in that arena, I was playing through 15's. Maybe what I should've been playing through since then.

You think you'd like the sound of those instead?

I thought it sounded top flight, and knowing Ron, he was serious about the sound as well. Personal preference here, if I had too choose between the JBL 15's in his Kustom, to todays Eminence 15's, I'd go with the JBL's without thinking twice about it.

One other thing I never worked into was, 300 watts is a more substantial power going through the 12's than the HyDrive HD115 of today. There's nothing wrong Eminence, I just like 15" HyDrive more. A single 8 ohm 500 Watt RMS 15 is pretty damn tuff. Most 8 ohm 15's are rated @ 300 -350 Watts RMS.

I understand those JBL speakers were pretty top notch for the time. I wonder who would be producing a sonic equivalent to them these days? There's also a bunch of other brands out there, besides Eminence, or Celestion. I know JBL just sticks with PA and audio stuff these days, and not raw speakers, that I've seen.

Yeah, that's pretty strong rating for a single 15" speaker. Your head has switchable impedance to 8 ohms, doesn't it? That way, you can give it full power, if you need it.

Yep! The Super Bassman has impedance of 2, 4, and 8 ohms capabilities. Two of these HD115 cabs would be like sleeping giants awoken @ 4 ohms.

Jensen is still one of the old-time speakers still around too. I do have to admit. as much as I liked the old JBL, Altec Lansing, and Electro Voice, the Hartke HyDrive is for me, the top banana. Jack Bruce knew what he was playing through till the end. I can't argue with The Master of the Bass!

Yeah, I'd bet two of those would throw off some serious low end and shake the rafters. There is something to be said for blasting through either two 15"s, or a 2 x 15" cab. 8) I've had the privilege to do so on a few occasions.

Jensen is still around, but unfortunately, the other two are not, at least with making speakers like they did. That's true, I suppose he could have played through just about anything he wanted, and he went with that.

You know, I think after I'm done with my Canned Heat explorations, I might check out some Jack Bruce stuff, and have a serious listen. I've never really did that other than hearing a couple of Cream albums years ago, so why not? I have heard and watched some live stuff here and there, but I've never actually listened to anything else.

Speaking of Canned Heat, I did notice a difference in the music with and without Larry Taylor, from what I've heard so far. I mean the other bassist that replaced him is really good, as the band is, but I noticed he had a certain flair to his playing that you can really hear in that music, especially when they jammed. I'll have to say, The Ox wasn't the only one who could throw down a bass solo, that's for sure.

As much as I like The Who, I don't put the Ox a top of Mt. Olympus. The Master of the Bass, once again, Jack Bruce.

You know something strange, I think it's probably been a year, if not close to it, since I've even listened to The Who. I don't know even why, I guess I just haven't been in the mood, not because I don't like them. I think sometimes I get overwhelmed with music, since I try to listen to all kinds of crap, new and old, and there's so much around. I've been digging Canned Heat, though. It's "old music," but it's new to me, since I didn't even hear most of it, other than maybe two or three songs.

That's all I basically listen too. The old stuff I grew up with, and worked with. Canned Heat was always being played around that time. Along with a lot of other stuff. I did listen to The Who all the time too. Iron Butterfly, Spirit, The Doors, Cream, and Mountain were go to bands all the time though.

What sucks is most of these dudes are dead or dying off now. I guess the 60's were a long time ago, though. At least the music still lives on. Speaking of which, apparently Canned Heat (in it's current incarnation, obviously) is going to play the 50th anniversary of Woodstock this year. It makes me wonder who's even left alive that played it originally? Then again, that's just considering the "famous" bands, like Jefferson Airplane, and The Who, not counting all of the other ones that you never or if barely hear of, or at least mentioned in the movie.
