It does give it that extra punch of power to push the air a bit better. It's definitely two 12's @ 500 watts, in a compact setup. I have a Speakon cable hooking it up, so it's pretty set for that.

Sounds very good, then. 8) Do you think this rig will be a keeper?

It better be. It has everything I'm looking for in an amp these days. Light weight, compact, 2X12's, very good sounds, and @ 4 ohms 500 Watts.

From the Markbass site. "The VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) is a shelf EQ that cuts a wider and wider range of high frequencies as you turn it up. Markbass amps are very clear-sounding, and this filter has the effect of drawing you into the mix more, making your sound less present. It's kind of like an "old school" knob!"
This control is handy to have on it. I like this "VLE" option more than the "VPF".

Also from the site, "The VPF (Variable Preshape Filter) boosts lows and highs, and cuts mids. Some call this kind of effect a scoop, a smiley-shape EQ, or an enhance knob. It's very effective for slap bass, pick playing, and driving eighth-note rock."

That pretty much covers as my amp now.

It does sound like a nice, all around combo amp, with sound and power to match it. I can't believe the size and weight of it, as well. Bass gear has certainly come a long way with that. 8)

I know this is my third time around the same setup, that I should have hung on to before. I've been hung up on big, more massive bass amps for way too long. It really is time for me to wake up. I could've gotten by with just the Mini CMD 121P Combo, but it does sound super fine with the NY121 cab attached to it.

Well, I think the thing with the big amps, is they are very cool, and having that style to them. It reminds you of blasting a stage in all of it's rock and roll glory, or something like that, I suppose. Of course, that doesn't always translate into reality, or practicality, but then again, if we really gave a crap about that, we'd probably wouldn't be musicians in the first place. :P Still, sometimes you just have to use something else besides an 8 x 10" refrigerator size cab, especially when you're the only one that's going to move it, and you're playing in a small room, or whatever. At least they have nice, portable options these days.

You're right Paul, about the big amps, as they were louder than thunder itself. There was an almost reverence to see, and hear the show as it roared on. I hate to admit, that those days are about gone as I knew them, anyway. And I was just the Head Roadie, not playing it.

I do appreciate the newer Markbass designs. Compact, light weight, but still can put out those low sounds to my liking! A mini stack if you like.

I'd say it is that, a mini stack. 500 watts isn't exactly wimpy, and 12" speakers aren't exactly tiny, either. I imagine that should put out the low end and power, plus the benefit of portability.

Yeah,...... that's exactly what it is. A combo with an external cab. 300 Watts @ 8 ohms, 500 watts @ 4 ohms. The 2X12's do handle low end, and there is a full attenuator for the Piezo Tweeter, on the NY121 cab. 26 Pounds, and 29 pounds are pretty easy to move around. I'm going to have to hang on to this one.

Well, if you don't, there's always the old standby of Fender and/or Ampeg. :P You know they will always work well for you, except that Ampeg cab is a beast to move.

That's too true. Both the Ampeg, and Fender are very acceptable. But there's something of the overall design, sound, and the ease of portability of the Markbass that is int's favor of being the overall keeper. The Combo is easy to disconnect from the cab, and light enough to carry to another room, with no problems. The Markbass is 300 watts on it's own, as compared to say the Rumble 100, that is not capable of any more wattage than it's own internal 100 watts.

That's true about that, for the size and power of it, that's a lot going for it. Plus, it has your 12" speakers, too. You don't see too many combos with 12" speakers that are at least 300 watts or more. Usually, they are smaller amps in the 150 to 200 watt range, with typically being 150 watts, sometimes even less. Most of your higher powered combos will usually have 2 x 10"s in them, these days.

Yeah, it can be a challenge getting into an amp that has pretty much what you either want, or need. I'm looking really good here.

Sometimes, it can take a few tries to get the right set up, with the right combination of amps and speakers. I do like my amp, but if I could change one thing, which it seems highly likely that I won't, and I'm not even sure even if I did, it would be sonically a good idea, I'd might consider getting the Portflex 15" cab to go with the PF-800, mainly for the reason that I can attach it, and store the head inside of it for transport. I like the idea of that, but I don't know how much I'd be giving up sonically, if it all, by swapping the 4 x 10"s for a 15" speaker. Besides, I'd have to sell the 4 x 10" cab to get one, if I can get one cheap enough, which also might be a bad idea. The reason I'm even thinking about this is we're planning on moving our operations to New York (gigs, and all of that,) and that might be easier to do. New England is a music dead zone for us, right now.

That is an interesting question about the whether to stay with your 410 cab, or go with a PF 15. The PF is a good cab. The 410 cab seems to be working well for you. I myself do like the multi driver cab, two or more drivers as compared the single driver setup. The single doesn't seem to have the response, and recovery as quick as the multi does. Just my opinion.
