Tell me about time. I loose track quite easily any more. I'm just getting old.
I was playing the the AC Jazz today for almost two hours. The Jazz is magnificent, as hot should be for the damn sticker price on it. The Rumble / Ampeg has come at a great time to run the two Fenders through. I always thought Rumbles had a fine sound, but this 800 watts through the SVT-410HLF is something.
I thought when I first got into this amp combination, I'd probably be doing an Ampeg head to go with the SVT-410HLF. I sure am fortunate that I was able to get the 800 HD. This head, and cab has such a low, rich tone. And it sure didn't take long to tune in the sound I prefer.

So, I suppose if anything, you're at least pretty settles with the amp and cab, then?

Yeah, I knew the HLF cab would be right there, but the 800 HD really surprised me, and showed me how much of a positive head that it is. Great on the tones.

What's even funnier about that is you've had amps that were a lot more expensive, all tube, and all of that business. Sometimes, you can get surprised with something when you least expect it.

How right you are Paul. If Fender hadn't put out the 800 HD, I would've in all probability had a PF800 sitting on top of the SVT-410HLF. I think both the PF800, and the 800 HD do great on a 410 cab.

Yeah, and if they had actually put the 800 HD out a little earlier, I would have had one instead of the PF-800, too. Then again, maybe not, because I did have trouble trying to sell the Orange, and the money I did get for it only covered the cost of the Ampeg, that was on sale and discounted something like $115 off a new priced one, which is also the price of the Fender. Maybe this happened for a reason, and that's what I was meant to play on. Besides, it's an excellent amplifier, so far. You usually can't go wrong with an Ampeg, as far as getting tones out of it. Still, if something ever happens to it, which I seriously hope never happens, at least I know there is that Fender option available.

And I'd feel the other way, if I needed to replace the Rumble 800 HD, the Ampeg PF-800 would be my first choice.

Yeah, and oddly enough, we'd both would finally have matching cabs to go with each head. :P

It is kinda' crazy the way the two amp setups are so close.

I'm pretty sure that even if Fender were to turn out a 2X12 cab, it's too late in the game for me to swap out a cab. The SVT-410HLF is a damn thunder cab. That's what I want, and the Rumble 800 does a fantastic job. It's win / win for this old man.

Yeah, that cab sounds like it's quite a powerhouse. Who knows if they'll do any 12"s like that, or not? I wonder how the old ones from the 60's or 70's would do, if you put modern speakers in them? I know they even had a 4 x 12" bass cab that had a weird design to it where the speakers were placed kind of diagonally towards the center of the cab. I think it was with the Bassman 100 head, or something like that. I just found a pic of it here: Image

It's rare that I see some of the older cabs with the grill cloth removed.

I got the pic from someone trying to sell that rig on Reverb.com. They had pics with and without the grill on it, so you could see what it looked like with that configuration. I wonder how it would work out, especially if you have modern speakers in it that would hold up to more power going through them? You ever have any dealings with this rig at all, or heard it?

No telling on that one.
