Red silk is usually either GHS or Rotosound, but I've understood D'Addario has made strings for other brands.

I was looking at pics of an Epi Viola, and it appears to have the strings, except for them being a short scale.

I noticed there was a difference in some of the pics on various Epiphone basses that are the same model, but different finishes. They could be using older pics on some of them, which might have had a different brand of strings on them. For example, the Jack Casady model had one finish with the strings with the red silk ends on it, and the other did not.

I don't have a clue on the string differences from one brand to another anymore.

A lot of them are probably the same, but I suppose some are better than others. Of course, that's also a personal preference. I used to be big on Rotosounds, but it seems the availability of them has great diminished, in where I can even buy them. I think pretty much Guitar Center carries them, and I'd really rather not shop there, unless I absolutely have to. I've also found them to have a lot higher tension to them then some other strings I've tried, as far as the flats are concerned. They take a little longer to break in, it seems.

Yeah, it's not exactly a favorite of mine to shop in. :P

You know, the thing about it, is a lot of the independent shops weren't always that great, either. I think what it boils down to is it depends on who's running them, or working there. Way before any Guitar Center BS, I've dealt with some crap with stores, as well. Really what's the issue I have with Guitar Center, not the concept itself, but the way I've had to deal with the people working in there. It's not exactly the most professional environment, but I suppose the majority of people that shop there aren't professional to begin with, so there is that.

Yeah, I guess we'd have to say have to say it does swing both ways on that. I can only imagine what Charlie Katz thought when he saw myself, Ron, and Nick walk into MAE, his music store after school, a lot! A fairly small family owned shop on Davie Blvd., in Ft. Lauderdale. We liked his shop, and showed him respect. As we got a bit older, we started buying from him. I think I blew his mind the most. I walked in one day, and bought the Gibson EB-0 new, for $349.00.

Wow, that's something, considering all you can get for that now a days is an Epiphone or a Squier. Then again, that's not factoring in inflation. According to the inflation calculator, $349 in 1969 (I just picked that year since that was probably around the time, right?) is the equivalent to $2,478.06 today. Damn, if that's the case, Gibson was even more expensive back then for that bass, if you're comparing it to the current SG model.

The 2019 SG Std. is running about $1500. That's with a case. My EB-0 for $349., with no case. Who knows how they came up the $349. back then.

The Rumble 800 HD is manufactured in Indonesia. We wondering about the manufacturing of that a couple of weeks ago. For what ever reason in the advertisements of it, Fender doesn't want to show manufacturing sites.

The last generation of Rumble amps was made in Indonesia, too. The previous generation (the one I have,) was made in China. I've noticed a lot of stuff is being made in Indonesia these days, especially basses and guitars. Most of your Ibanez stuff is (including my Talman,) with the exception of the really high end stuff made in Japan. I guess in some ways, Indonesia has replaced South Korea for manufacture, like South Korea replaced Japan, before that, and China replaced South Korea, before that, with various priced instruments.

I remember when South Korea was the cheapest, then there was Japan, and the US. Now the order is Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan, which is as expensive as the US used to be, and still is. Hell, a lot of South Korean stuff is expensive now, over $1000. Then again, even some Indonesia stuff creeps up there. It all depends on who's making what, and how much quality control goes into it. The one thing I do remember about Japanese Fender, is I thought it was really good stuff, at least my experience with it. I even liked it better than the US Fender. Of course, your results may vary.

I imagine so. Fenders usually sound pretty good through Fenders. Then again, it's hard for most any instrument to sound crappy through a Fender amp, unless it's a hopeless POS to begin with. :P How much adjustments do you have to do between the basses? You do have a diverse selection there between the three, and the other one coming, with different pickups, and all of that.
