I think so, too.

I know sometimes I get hung up on the needing more power, just because it's available. Whether I need it or not.

I'm almost contemplating switching out the SVT-212AV, to the SVT-410HLF. The 410HLF peaks at 1,000 watts. This would allow me to go up to 800 - 1,000 watts if I ever wanted to, or needed to.

Are you still going to run the V-4B head though?

No. And I'm pretty much locked in on a Bassman 800 since the SVT-410HLF can take the 800 watts @ 4 ohms.

You should try out an Ampeg PF-800 like I got, and see if you like it, too. That has the 800 watts, and is cheaper than the Bassman. Although, it doesn't have any tubes in it, so if you need that, I can see why you'd want the Bassman 800. There's also an SVT-7 Pro, but that's 1000 watts at 4 ohms, which does go over that 800 watt mark.

I was just using the 800 watts as the peak watts from the head @ 4 ohms. The SVT-410HLF peaks at 1,000 watts. Ampeg recommends the SVT-7PRO to go with the SVT-410HLF. That's one of the reasons I chose to go back to the SVT-410HLF, over the SVT-212AV. The 212AV peaks at 600 watts.

Now with the 800, I'm not concerned with power tube bias, as with an all tube head. And now I don't need a backup head. Plus, I just like the old school look of the Bassman head.

That's a good point with the tube bias, since those preamp tubes aren't usually as high maintenance as the power amp ones. At least, I never had an issue when I had an amp that had them, other than having to wait to warm them up. I think you get most of your tone from the preamp, anyway.

Are these ones you had before, or new models? By the way, I always thought that was something that you were ever to reacquire any of your gear in the first place. When I ever sold something, I never saw it again anywhere.

The Bassman 800 head is my previous one. This is no lie, the head has never had a power cord plugged into it. I returned it to SA. The manager told me, people looked at it, but didn't consider it because of the new price tag. It's like they kept it safe for me to reacquire as a new, one owner Bassman 800.

The SVT-410HLF is an old one in the pic. The new one I have is shipping from a SA warehouse in Indiana. It was only there for a day, and a half when I had the order in for that one. It should show up at the local SA Tuesday, April, 2nd, as should the Player Jazz. The Player Jazz Is coming in from SA Tampa's warehouse.

That's something that amp managed to stick around, but that's also good for you. They didn't have any Ampeg cabs around, then?

The one SVT-410HLF I brought in previously, sold right away. The one on the floor looked like it was really heavily used and abused. The speakers had a bit of rasp sound when I tried it out. When I did a quick cost for getting that cab up, after the initial purchase price, a new cab was only about $50. bucks more. A new grill cloth, four new speakers, and in all probability a HF Horn replacement as well.

I don't blame you for passing on that cab that seemed beat up, unless it was something that you could get really dirt cheap and in your favor. That's usually not likely, especially from a music store. Speaking of dirt cheap cabs, today is the last day for that sale on the Ampeg refurbished gear. It's too bad I couldn't take advantage of that. They had one hell of a deal on those cabs.

My SVT-410HLV is a huge FedEx facility in Ocala, FL, along I-75. That's about four hours north of my location.
The Player Jazz is in the FedEx facility in Pompano Bch. Only about 15 minutes from the Margate SA store. Both are still set for April 2nd delivery.

That cab at SA, was priced way too high for the condition its in. That one's not for me anyway.
