I can only imagine what that thing was like. I've seen videos of it, but nothing in real life. It must be loud as hell going off, isn't it?

It probably isn't as loud as you would think. Those ultra high speed electric guns do more of a high speed whining, whooshing sounds as they fire. Also whatever sound is contained in the plane, and the altitude of the plane cuts down on the sounds.

That's a good point. They didn't typically use those things on the ground, I take it. It would have probably been really handy if you could, though.

There was a mobile application for it, but it wouldn't have the devastating affect, since it was more efficient for covering more of a kill area from above.

They could mount it on a Jeep, or something like that?

Yeah, some type of utility vehicle, maybe bigger than a jeep. The military has so many different vehicles that most of us never see unless on TV news, or the road being moved from one armory to another.

You know, when I was a kid, I got this huge coffee table book, I think called "Vietnam Order Of Battle," or something like that, which had to do with everything related to that war, from every piece of equipment, weapons, to all of the stats and info with who was there, how many people in each branch of service, down to squads, or whatever the smallest group is, and casualty lists from all sides. There was all kinds of photos and other details. I'm sure every vehicle that was there was in that book. I do remember seeing some pictures of some vehicles, but it's been so many years since I've read that book, and it's long gone now.

You probably know more about that damn war then the Generals that ran it. I have a limited knowledge of it, and that's more than I care to know.

You were there, so you'd know more than anyone, other than the others that were there also. Maybe those generals should have listened to you, instead. I guess that I had this curiosity about it, since they barely mentioned anything about it in my history classes in school, and it was a war that definitely effected my generation, in the fact it was going on when I was born, and there were a lot of kids in my age group (whom I knew) had fathers (or mothers, too) that were there, yet it was treated almost like this dirty little secret that no one really talked about, unlike something like WW2, which obviously was a major event. I also had a cousin that was there. I suppose the whole thing is probably why the 60's turned out the way they did, maybe as a reaction to it, in a lot of ways. Do you think if that war never happened, the 60's would have turned out like they did, or that still would have happened, other than any sort of mass protesting, which did happen. I know there was some sort of rebellion against the stuff your parents did, with the music, fashion, and other attitudes, though.

I was born during Korea. And it was handled about the same as Vietnam was for you. WWII was covered in school, but not Korea.

Technically, that war never ended, we just had a cease fire for the past 67 years. Who knows what's going to happen there, but now we're getting into the fun and games with Iran. Then again, this was probably due to happen for the past 40 years. I guess the world's a big $#!+ show these days, between all of that, mass protests, like in Hong Kong, and those massive wild fires in Australia.

The funny thing is that they've had a lot of student protests and things like that going on there, with people not happy with that government, so who knows how all of this will pan out.
