The first generation Rumble I had was the 15" combo. I think in that first generation series, the 100 was the 15". They later renamed the series combos.

Yeah, the first generation was the one with the disco lights, and the rat fur, and a 15" speaker. A little later on before they came out with the second generation, they had also put out another 100 watt combo with a 2 x 10" configuration, as well. That's something that you don't see too often, if at all, with a lower powered combo with more than one speaker. That Bassman 100 watt combo I was looking at from that time period only had a single 10" speaker. It was a small amp, though. Very compact.

I had the Bassman 150 combo, it think it was with a 12". That was a decent combo.

Those were a nice series of amps. Probably the last series of Fender bass amps before everything went to Class D, with the exception of the all tube stuff.

I've done some evaluations of the two combos, HD75, and the Rumble 100. I'm staying with the HD75. They are close enough in power, and speaker specs to make it not worth changing out.

That's probably good you did that, instead of going with the other amp, then wishing that you stuck with the first one, and then it would be a pain in the arse to fix that, if even possible.

And they are basically similar enough where for my use, where it doesn't matter which one of the two I do have.

I suppose then the only real advantage would have been the Fender's more compact size. What was the weight difference between the two?

Hartke: 47-48 #'s / Fender: 22-23 #'s. Thereabouts.

Oh, so it's double the weight, then? Is the Hartke plywood, or MDF?

I just looked it up, the Hartke is 48.2 pounds, plywood. It must be a birch plywood, and thicker wall all the way around, including the back panel. The HyDrive may weigh more than the Eminence as well. I guess I shouldn't complain if in-fact the Hartke maybe has a stronger cab. For all I know, Hartke could be using one type of lumber for all of their cabs. Combos, and regular cabs alike. It must be more cost efficient using all of the same, and that way they can afford to have a bit better lumber used in everything that way. It seems logical anyway.

Yeah, that would make sense. I suppose the aluminum speakers probably also contribute some weight. I remember the specs on their all aluminum speaker cab was around 88 pounds, I think. The dimension on it aren't that big, either. It's about the same as my Rumble 4 x 10", if I remember correctly. Of course, I could look it up to be sure.

So far, the HD75 is still in place. That may change later in the week or so, if I like the 100, over the 75.

Happy New Year Paul.
Yeah,........ I am. I'm still thinking the Rumble 100 will maybe be my best way to go. There's no hurry on this if I do change out. I have to admit, I like the sound from Rumble amps when I try out a bass at a store, more than the majority of other amps there. SA where I do most of my dealings, has the Hartke, and Rumble series. The best place for the comparison to go to.
As of now though, I'm more in favor of the Rumble 100. Image
