Maybe, maybe not. Homestead is just north of Florida City, and has a bit more there.

I also imagine Homestead had to rebuild quite a bit after Hurricane Andrew flattened it. You know, I don't remember St. Pete really getting much from that one. I think we were lucky, there.

Homestead A.F.B. was the biggest thing there, and Andrew did damn near destroy it. The Air Force rebuilt part of it, and then scaled it down from a full A.F. Base, to a A.F. Reserve Base. I always thought that was a foolish move. That was considered the southern most air defense of that section of the country.

There are some intermediate missile silos along US road 27, to the west of Homestead. I think the intermediates were Polaris, Minuteman's, like what the Lafayette Class Ballistic Missile Subs carried at that time. Not ICBM long range missiles, that are the Minuteman III

And there is also a Hawk missile complex, that defends the Turkey Point Nuclear Plant at the lower end of Biscayne Bay, to the east. The Hawks are surface to air defense.

I guess because there's MacDill, maybe they felt they didn't need something of that huge capacity. That, or some political crap going on.

Well, there's also a lot of waste with them, especially things like spending $500 for a hammer, or things like that, too.

Speaking of the military, for some reason, I've always found the writing on those Claymore mines, which says "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" kind of amusing. It's like gee, you think I should set it up that way? :P I guess some idiot would probably do the opposite?

I suppose something like that happened when you were in the military?
