I noticed you did that with the other thread post. :P

Here today, gone today. It was a good move, for me to get a bit of a better match of the head / cab. The more expensive SB was really a waste to use in this small room, like the HD115 was as well.

I can see your point with that, if you're not running it in large clubs, or something like that. Besides, they both match up now. :P

I do somewhat believe the electronics base, or core of a brand do work in conjunction better with each other. My 11X13 room doesn't have the air volume to justify the 300 Watts SB. At least the V-4B at 100 Watts, is more reasonable.

I can see your point. Your room is actually a little bigger than what we were using for a rehearsal room in the house, until we converted it over to a wardrobe room, and I had the Orange head with the 18" Carvin cab running in there, at first. Talk about overkill for the space. :P I barely had the volume up on that thing in there.

Are you kidding, or what??? You had a giant setup in there. A 1K Watts Orange head, and an 18" cab to go with it. Sweet, but talk about power in not that large of an area. I bet that setup was a Monster!!!

Yeah, it definitely threw out some low end. Unfortunately, it became problematic, especially when I had the violin bass going through it. At least I have more clarity with the new amp, since I do have some more EQ options, as far as that bass is concerned. I don't have as much of an issue with the Ibanez, because it has better pickups on it, and they're brighter/louder. It also had a Precision pickup with it, so those always seem to play nicely with the Ampeg amps.

Well, AMS finally has the Rumble 800 head listed, and in stock, to torment me, because it came out too late. :P That's OK, at least they finally put one out.

My sequel to yours, would have been a Bassman 212 Neo when I had the SB head. They blew it, it's too late now, like they would put out a 212 cab anyway. The Ampeg is in the house. I'm attempting to keep Ampeg as the sole amp gear in the house.
The Rumble 800 is an interesting head, if it can run with what a player has for a cab, or cabs.

Who knows if they'll do the 2 x 12" cab again? I probably wouldn't hold my breath waiting, but I suppose you never know, since they did finally put out the Rumble 800 head.

The one main thing that I do like that I noticed with the Rumble 800 is the fact you can run 2 ohms on it, which is really convenient, because there were times when I had both 8 and 4 ohm cabs, which of course with the 4 ohm ones, they were usually used by themselves, because of the whole ohmage thing. That's great that that eliminates at least that issue, even if you never wind up needing it. Still, unless something drastic happens (which I seriously hope won't,) I'm pretty square with what I got running now. Maybe in the future I could get one of those Rumble 800 heads as a secondary amp, you never know.

They are tempting to say the least. You PF-800 is a monster as well, with out magnetic attachments on it.

That's true. So far, I don't regret getting it. I say so far, because I have yet to gig with it. Either way, I'm glad we do have extra options out there, even if we never get them. When you think about it, it's a pretty damned good time for a bass player as far as gear goes. Look at all of the options available. There's even things out there besides the usual suspects, like Fender or Ampeg.

If you have the cash, there's even what I guess you'd call boutique brands. I've seen a few that look interesting, at least to me, anyway. Demeter, and Milkman Sound are a couple that I can think of on top of my head. Milkman Sound seems to based around your old Fender designs, but they offer a 700 watt bass head. It costs around as much as a Super Bassman, I think, though.

I never really thought of any amps as boutique brands. To me, an amp is an amp. If I were to get any other type of amp as a backup, other than a Ampeg PF500, the TC Electronic RH450 would possibly be it. It can replayed through with out a load.

You know, I remember when you had one. They put out a 700 or 750 watt version right after that. I'm not even sure if they are still making either of them, since I haven't looked in a long time. I do remember John Paul Jones using that rig afterwards. The one that had more wattage. He used to use SWR for many years, but of course they went south, like a few other brands Fender owned.

It's an RH750, still available. The 4 ohms @ 750 watts is over my magic number of 600 watts for the SVT-212AV. Hell 450 watts would be more than enough for a backup. It would be nice to use just by itself with out a cab, just headphones. Image
