That's right, those TC Electronic heads can run without a cab, using the headphone jack. I remember that about them. They also had those red amps that had the same feature, as well. I think they're putting out some new ones like those this year. I remember when they had a 500 watt combo with a 15" speaker that sounded really nice. I had some GAS for that thing, but it wound up getting discontinued, and I eventually wound up getting the Rumble 350 combo after that came out, and eventually the Orange, then now the Ampeg amp and Fender cab.

The RH450 is a pretty swift head. I think it also has a tube setting on it, like MarkBass heads have.

You thinking about looking into one again?

It would be comparing a PF500, to a RH450. Down the road though. If even needed.

I suppose you'll cross that bridge when you get to it, if you decide to.

If I were going to choose one head now, the PF500 would be I think the back up of choice, because it's running $400., instead of the RH450 at about twice the price for 50 watts less. And now Ampeg is backed by Yamaha. It at least sounds ok to me.

That's a good point. The TC amp does cost more, although they did drop the price of it when the 750 came out, and like you said there's Yamaha in the picture.

It should make it more attractive for some players to go with Ampeg now being controlled by Ampeg. I know if I hadn't had any Ampeg Amps, I'd be more inclined to with Ampeg now.

Yeah, I really don't recall hearing too much negative feedback to where Yamaha is concerned. They seem to make pretty good stuff.

I totally agree with that about Yamaha, and it's fine musical history.

I think they are about the only company that makes things besides that. They have the motorcycles, and boat motors, and whatever else.

They are a pretty diversified corporation.

It appears a PF-800 is in my future as a back up for the V-4B. I can run it through the SVT-410HLF @ 4 ohms, and get the 800 watts from it. You really had me thinking about the possibilities of a PF-800 head, and the SVT-410HLF.

They'd certainly match up pretty well, I think. I haven't used mine extensively yet, but I do like what I have heard and done with it so far. By the way, I'm planning on using it to record, either today or tomorrow. I understand that you can run it without going into a cab, so that would be handy to use it as a preamp/DI sort of thing, and I can get that Ampeg sound.

It would be kind of a pain in the arse to run it with the cab, because of the way the recording gear is setup, it's all being monitored through headphones, and that could overwhelm everything, especially in the small office space. When I recorded using the Rumble 350 combo, I used to plug a patch cable in the headphone jack to mute the speakers, and do the same thing, since my signal was going through the monitors/headphones. I have recorded with the amp using the speakers, but that was a live performance thing, that was filmed with a video camera.
