The Rumble 500 does have a good sound to it. They do seem to be pretty issue free as well. The price on them isn't to high either.

I was planning on getting a Rumble 500 combo at one point in time, but they raised the price of it, and the Orange never did sell, sans the fact it wouldn't have been that beneficial for me, financially. I mean, I wanted to make some extra cash besides having a different amp, and all or most of the cash made from the Orange would have only covered the cost of the Rumble. Now, they have a Rumble 800, albeit in a combo form. I'd love to see a head version of that, since I already have a Rumble 4 x 10" cab, which I do like. Although, you have to run an extra cab with the 800 combo to get the full 800 watts, so six of one, half dozen of another.

You lost me after, I was planning. NO,........ just kidding. I've been in the same situation with pursuing one type of amp, if the cash flow was there. The Bassman 800 was very tempting, but the money tree was low on leaves. And the Bassman 500 is working great with the 115 Neo. It's funny, how we've talked about the bass amp options are being so much greater now, than they were in the past.

Yeah, they really are. There's quite a few new brands out there, as well, or some that have been around for a while but maybe under the radar. There's quite a bit out there, but sometimes you have to look beyond the usual stores to find it.

I see that Black Star is doing some bass amps.

Yeah, I've seen those, too. They look pretty interesting, actually. No heads yet, but they also make a 250 watt powered speaker cab (I think it's a 15" speaker, but not sure) that you can hook up to any of the combos for more power. For example, they have a 500 watt combo with 2 x 10" speakers, and you can make it into 750 watts, if you needed to. It's kind of like the old school slave amps they had back in the day, I think. I'm sure you remember those.

GK has a series of preamp power cabs. The Acoustics were pretty ahead of their time.

Do you think the Acoustics were practical in their design, though? I suppose the idea behind that was for you to run multiple cabs without multiple heads, I'm not sure. They did wind up changing the design to having the heads be powered, though.

I think the Acoustics were one of the most superb amps for live performance amps for their time. PA's were just getting to handle more things than just vocals. It was a typical amp setup to run two, or three together for more power.

I imagine the one drawback to them would have been any excess weight added to the cabs because that's where the power was situated, but then again, all of that stuff wasn't exactly lightweight to begin with.

The Acoustic cabs ran about 125 pounds. If I remember right, the 360 head was about 75 pounds. The heads back then, weighed more than some of the cabs we use today.

Yeah, they made stuff pretty damned heavy back then, didn't they? Built like tanks, though.

And the heavy weights were wood. Not the particle boards, etc.

Yeah, that stuff you don't want to get wet, not that you'd want to expose any sort of electronics to water.

Water is that stuff's biggest enemy. It breaks it down fast.
