It was cool to see a new amp back then, that really worked throughout the years.

It certainly stood the test of time, and still around. Unfortunately, you can't say that about a lot of other things that were around back then, cool as they might have been. When was the last time you've seen someone crank an Acoustic 360/361 rig live? Nixon was still president, probably.

No,.....I saw Canned Heat at some time in the 80's, and Larry Taylor was still destroying everyone's hearing with his Acoustic 360 / 361.

Wow, that's amazing he still had those going. Well, John Paul Jones had a pair of those going until the US 1977 tour, then he used an early Gallien Kruger head, but used the powered speaker section for some dates of the 1980 tour, from what I've read. Apparently, the preamp section on one of them caught fire at the end of a show. Then he used a Trace Elliot amp, and eventually SWR. I'm not sure what he's using these days, unless he's still running the SWR stuff. I remember him playing around with those TC Electronics 750 watt amps at one point a few years ago, so maybe those. I should go look and see what he's been up to anyway.

I'm surprised gear holds up as well as it does with the way it gets pushed.

I guess it all depends on how it's taken care of, as well.

That's very true. The better made gear does seem to hold up better as well. The original Acoustics were brick houses. Almost everything was back then though.

Oh speaking of Gallien Kruger, which I was looking at, since I found out that John Paul Jones used a couple of their earlier amps, they no longer carry their products at Guitar Center or it's online affiliates, like Musician's Friend. I thought that was interesting, since that was probably one of their main places to sell their stuff, besides Sam Ash, I suppose. I wonder what was up with that? Maybe it has to do something with Guitar Center's financial status?

It very well could be. Like GC isn't paying GK for the product.

Not on the same subject, but Wolf Camera, before they shut down, stiffed Nikon fo somewhere in the amounts of Three Million dollars. By not paying for what they had of Nikon products.
Maybe GK is seeing the impending doom of GC, or just don't want to take the chance of getting stiffed.

Sam Ash has some GK, but Sweetwater has a lot of GK. Sweetwater is very good for amps as well. If I can, ordering from Sweetwater is better for me. They don't charge shipping, or the Fla. 6% sales tax. SA has to, because they have retail stores in the state.

That makes sense with the GC thing. I wouldn't blame them for pulling out of there, if that is the case. You really think they are going to crash and burn, or it's just the typical internet rumor stuff?

Another interesting thing with GK, I just looked at their online dealerships, and Sam Ash wasn't listed, either. They had a total of seven stores, including Sweetwater, and Chicago Music Exchange, which where I got the medium scale flats for the violin bass from. I even typed in two locations (New York and Florida) for local dealers that I know where Sam Ash stores are, and they didn't come up. I wonder what's up with that? Sam Ash carried them for years. They in trouble too?

Or, GK is the one in trouble. With today's business dealings, who knows anymore.

I did noticed that they jacked the price on some of their amps, which I'm not sure how wise that maneuver is, considering what the competition might offer. I've only used their 800RB head, which was a really nice amp, and I was surprised when they discontinued it, since it was one of the classic designs, like an SVT, but I guess now it would be considered "obsolete," because of the lightweight Class D heads that can go up to 1000 watts, or whatever. That amp hooked up with the right cabs was no slouch, I can attest to that. I've mentioned in the past about it being hooked up to a 2 x 18" and 2 x 10" cabs and feeling it actually hit you when I cranked it one time. I've heard their Class D amps were iffy when they first came out, but then again, that technology was like that when that happened, and it had some bugs to work out. You had some GK amps, didn't you?

I had a 700, and a MB fusion 500. Both GK's were fine heads. I especially liked the MB fusion 500. If I remember correctly, I ran it through an Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab. A little Monster through that 4 ohm cab. It would be ashamed if GK shut down. If I had to choose between either a Rumble 500, or a MB fusion 500, I really don't know which one I'd go for. One good thing about the Rumble series, they really have proved themselves to be a top bass amp series. I've been kicking around getting a Rumble 100, for times when I want to play in another room in the house. Who knows.

The 700 has gone up $100 in price from what it was for a long time. Before I even got a Rumble, or those even came out with that series, that was one of the heads I had my eye one, besides maybe Peavey or Hartke. There certainly wasn't the selection you have now, even 10 to 15 years ago, or maybe just starting to come out.

One of those Rumble would make a great amp for what you're talking about. I remember you saying something about that a long time ago.
