More power to ya', you have work to do. The Fender cab should work pretty good with the Orange.

So far, it has, even though I had to use the MXR pedal with the violin bass. There's probably a chance I might not need to with the Ibanez, but I'll take it with me the next time I go to rehearsal, whenever the hell that may be.

The Violin, and Ibanez are defiantly two different styles of basses.

That they are, especially while I still have the rounds on it. Another thing that I've noticed with the Ibanez, is the neck seems a lot more stable on it, to where I might not even have to tweak the truss rod because of the wonky weather screwing with it, and causing fret buzz in the 1st fret, like the violin bass. Then again, that could be because the violin bass is essentially an acoustic instrument, and they are more temperamental to the environment than a solid body instrument, it seems. I really haven't had any buzz issues, other than the typical noise from round wound strings, if I hit them a certain way, and it came set up pretty good. Ibanez did a good job. 8)

Oh yeah, another thing I've seen, which was sort of related, because you had an Ampeg, even though we haven't been on topic (what else is new? :P) is did you see the news about Yamaha buying Ampeg from Loud? I do believe there's a thread over at Talk Bass, which I happen to find when trying to find out info on it, but I heard about it in a news feed I get related to bass stuff. I think this is a good thing, since generally Yamaha has good quality control with their products, and I know there were some issues with Ampeg when Loud bought them out, originally, although, I understand a lot of that has been fixed over the years. I've actually played through some old Yamaha bass amps from the 80's, and a few Yamaha basses over the years, as well as their guitars, and thought they were pretty decent.

I agree with you too about the neck differences between them. Hollow bodies could be more susceptible to weather changes. Ibanez turns out good basses.
I saw the Ampeg / Yamaha deal. It should make Ampeg a more respectable name again.
When I had the Bassman 500 / 115 setup before, it sounded fine. The drawback to it back then, was the issue of the 500 had. Like you mentioned earlier, if there is a function problem, I'll do as I did before, and return it. I am however not for seeing any of the old issues with it. I can't be that unlucky. I hope.

I had it delivered to the house, instead of being drop shipped to the store. I opened up the carton, and unpacked it. Hooked it up, and ran the PJ Precision through it to set it up. At least with the Precision, the Overdrive Channel seems to sound a little more to my liking than the Vintage does. Tomorrow I'll play the Jazzes. I'm thinking I may get the same results with them as well. It sounds great. No issues at all. The selector Vintage / Overdrive switch is even silent when switched. Image Image

Sounds good. 8) Hopefully, all will be well with this, especially with the other basses.

With the Ampeg/Yamaha thing, I wonder if there is going to be some new developments with products, or just business as usual? Time will tell, but usually companies have to come up with new products to maintain interest, eventually. If anything, I'm sure the quality control should be pretty good, or at least it has been with Yamaha to begin with.

One thing I believe Yamaha should leave as is, are the tube heads.

Yeah, I doubt they'll change anything with the SVT heads, since that's pretty much the bread and butter of the Ampeg line, at least on a larger, professional level. What's more classic than that, other than a Marshall stack, or Fender Twin, that sort of thing that goes way back?

So right. The've stood the test of time on a professional level for sure.

That's for sure. Ever since the Stones did that tour with them. I do believe that was the first, and they apparently even had techs from Ampeg go on the road with them to check everything out. I guess the band was a test subject with that gear, since it was brand new. I imagine that was putting everything on the line doing something like that. Imagine the disaster for the company if their stuff had a lot of failures and the like. That would have probably did them in, especially with a high profile band like that.

The stories of them using prototype heads, and damn near having meltdowns with no other manufactured was true. I remember seeing the first Ampegs in Fort Lauderdale, at Plantation Music. He was actually the first Certified Ampeg Dealer, on the east coast of the U.S. There did seem to be something special, and different about the Ampegs.

Well, they certainly had a lot of power for the time period.

And they moved the air well at that time too.
