I'm sure that amp can hold it's own without the extra cab, even if you did play out. If I had got it when I planned to, I would have paired it with my 18" Celestion, though. Not because I needed the extra power, because I like the sound of that speaker. I've never played nor heard a Fender amp through an 18" speaker before, that I'm aware of. I think the only one they ever even offered was for that 400 PS head, which I've never even heard or seen in action. Just some info and pics.

At this time I think I'll hold off on the 112 cab. The 500C does hold it's own without the external cab. I always liked the 18 in an Acoustic 360/361.

Weren't those rear firing, or to where the speaker was facing the back of the amp at some angle, or am I thinking of some other amp?

If I remember correctly, the speaker was angled facing down, and to the back, and the air driven downward, then forward out of the port.

Yeah, I think I read about that somewhere. There use to be an Acoustic database website with also a forum that was online, but I don't know if they are still around or not. I haven't looked in a very long time.

That friend of mine's 360/361 was a total killer. He was the player who had the Kustom setup, and went to the 360/361, playing the Gibson EB0.

Did you ever get to play through it?

Yes I did, and with my old EB0. I have to say, it was the ballziest amp I ever played through. We were doing sound checks at the Hollywood Sportatorium before a show.

I'll bet it was something. I know John Paul Jones used a pair of them quite effectively for many years.

Yeah, Mark Andes, Larry Taylor, and bunches of others too.

Unless something that radically changes my mind, like a leaf dropping from a tree, etc,............. the Rumble 500C is on it's own without a 112 extension cab.

I've seen some deals with that cab on AMS, like open box or "scratch and dent," which usually means with them that box is beat up or something and nothing wrong with the product, which I've gotten, and you can save money on it. If I could get one of those, I would like to.

I'm going to pass on the 112 cab. It really sounds ok without it.

Picked up a "fixer" Fender Rumble 500 Combo on CL.
Tag: 'Overdrive' LED lights at high power with some clipping/volume reduction.
Finding #1: 24 VDC Aux SMPS drops as low as 16V8 during high power pulse. This is below the Vin-min for the 7X15xx regulators. I'm not sure if this the root cause, or a side effect of the systems overload protection circuits.
Query: Anyone seen this before?
Query: What is the "normal" overload behavior for this amp (I am hitting it pretty hard, but it is a 500).

Tag: 'Overdrive' LED lights at high power with some clipping/volume reduction.
Finding $#2: I disconnected the +/-24VDC-AUX power supply from the 125asx2, and replaced it temporarily with a regulated lab supply (+/- 20VDC). Amplifier operation is now as expected (amp output is very strong, no overdrive LED flashing). This suggests that the root cause of this issue is a marginal or weak output from the 123asx2 AUX supply. Comments??
