My option to replace my 1983 Fender Sidekick SKB 100 amp head and separate 15" speaker are a new Rumble 100 for about $250 or a used but in GREAT shape BXR 100 for $100. Any thoughts, and how would they compare to my Sidekick 100? (Had to get rid of the SK when I moved across country)

Well, the BXR 100 has a 15" speaker, and the Rumble 100 has a 12" speaker, so I'd say the BXR would be closer to what you have now. Also, if the BXR is in really good shape with no apparent issues, then that's a pretty good price for one, from what I've seen around. The flip side of that is the Rumble would be a new amp with no previous owners who often have a reason to get rid of their gear, and no age and wear and tear on it. Plus, you should have a 5 year warranty with it, because it is new. Although, I'll be honest the customer service around here can be spotty sometimes, from my experience at least. I've had the BXR 300 combo amp (pretty similar to the 100, and a 15" speaker, but with the ability to go 300 watts with an extension cab,) and I currently have a Rumble 350 combo amp, which is around 400 watts, but no extension cab and 2 x 10" speakers, instead of a 15" speaker, and both are good amps. Although, my Rumble is more powerful, but that's irrelevant to what you are inquiring about. I guess it would boil down to you wanting a 15" or 12" speaker, and wanting to buy new or used. I'm willing to say other than that, they pretty much sound like a Fender bass amp.

Thanks Paul, I did purchase the BXR and when I picked it up it looked great but, sure enough, I found one issue, the shaft on the volume pot was bent. When I got it home and tested it (would have done that at the sellers house but I didn't have my bass with me and the seller no longer had a bass either) it has major volume issues. I sent an email to Guitar Center to see what it would cost to have it positively diagnosed and the pot replaced. Since I know it will require some soldering and I just don't trust myself to do it on my own. If it's going to cost too much the seller will take it back and refund my money........

That's too bad about that one. Hopefully, you'll get that squared away without any further issues.
