I'm trying to find the matching replacement for the 6L6 tubes that came stock in my bassman 100T. I'll try and attach an image, but they are groove tubes and in front they have a sticker which says GT-6L6-GC.
When shopping for groove tunes I can't find these, only, 6L6CHP, 6L6GE or 6L6R. I really like what came with it and have tried other brands but these are what I think sounds best. Where can I get them or what's the equivalent now?

Groove tube don't make tubes , they buy from tubes manufacturer as you can do. Mostly Sovtek or JJ for 6L6.

Unless you bought exactly the same Groove Tube ( JJ, Sovtek or ....? ) with same GT rating number , you may have to check and adjust bias.

And you will have a very good tone :D

The 6L6GC is an old RCA design used in countless guitar amps and also very popular in audiophile power amps and recording/broadcast monitor applications. The 6L6GC is frequently called the "RCA BLACK PLATE" power amplification tube. The RCA black plate tube has huge bottom and likely any other 6L6 tube but another 6L6GC would disappoint. There are reproductions, such as the ones Groove Tube put in that amp stock. Any 6L6GC tube should work fine. I suggest Tube Amp Doctor as a reasonably priced source for quality tubes sold in matched pairs. They are all being made in China or Russia now and they are all you can get unless you go into the vintage market and that is going to run hundreds per tube. With the tubes coming out of Russia and China the brand name on the tube does not really matter as the same design tube made in one plant can wind up marketed under multiple brands. However I would try to get a matched pair or quad or whatever you need for sure.

IMO, the "new' 6L6GC have nothing in common with original RCA tube.

True but none of the other reproductions compare to the originals either. The preamp tubes especially have shorter lives.

I never had to replace new production preamp tubes wich was in amps since may years.
All new preamp tubes manufacturer are nor equals.

Maybe they won't last 40 years like most of original vintage ones, but who care ?

+1

However, given the economics of vintage vs contemporary I would likely opt for a good, durable contemporary alternative. For guitar applications the Electro-Harmonix 6L6EH is an excellent choice. But for bass amplification I'd be more comfortable with a tube that offered more robust construction such as the Tung-Sol STR. And as mentioned before, they should be installed as matched pairs or matched quads as the situation warrants. The idle-bias should be measured and, if necessary, adjusted for optimal tone and service life.

Arjay

Might want to consider the new issued (Russian) Tungsol 7581A.
