I don't see why not, there's nothing wrong with it, and the sounds are so fine. I've got that old style Fender 60's Bassman look amp, that would blow the doors off of a fair number of tube amps from back then.

Yeah, you pretty much had 100 watts for the loudest, but I suppose you could have just chained a bunch of them together, which they did. You probably never imagined the amp you have, didn't you? Hell, I didn't 20 years ago. That was just something to even have a 400 watt Class A/B head, which wasn't exactly a slouch.

My better two amps heads I had for a short time to chain together, the Traynor, and a Silvertone. I sold the Silvertone to a friend, leaving me with the Traynor. It's kinda' ironic that 50 years later, I'm using a bass amp setup I couldn't in wildest dreams back then own. A Fender Bassman. If I did have a Bassman back then, It would,ve been a 2X15 cab, and I guess a 100, or 135 head. But then again, if I could've afford the Bassman, I would have had that favorite of amps, the Kustom 200, with at least one 2X15 JBL cab. God almighty, those were great amps.

And now, I have this Bassman setup for playing at home. Crazy,........ Right?

It's funny, those amps you had back then are still in use, despite the fact there is newer technology, like what you are using now. Some people still like to use the old stuff, although probably more so for guitars than basses, although I've seen a few bands where the bassist was plugged into some old school stuff. I guess whatever works, works. I've mentioned this before, but at that rehearsal place in Boston, the guitarist actually has that very Kustom amp (and a couple other Kustoms) you were talking about. He even has some old Gretsch bass combo amp that I haven't even messed with yet, or even know if the damned thing works. It's got to be from the 60's. I don't think Gretsch were making any amps later than that, but I could be wrong. There are some websites that I have links for that probably have that info.

Personally, I'd rather use what I have now, or something similar, than those sort of amps to gig with, but I wouldn't mind using that stuff for fun, banging around the house, or some recording kind of thing. I always thought it would be cool to have a room in a house (if you have that kind of space) for a 60's inspired music room, with that kind of gear in it. You know, kind of like the same concept when people have 50's diner type kitchens with the booths and all of that. You could have the lava lamps, old school record players and all of that stuff. A lot of that you can still find, or they make reproductions.

As much as I loved those 60's amps, if I'm going to play an amp, I'd play the current amps. I can't afford to have an amp I'm not going to play. Just me, but I just don't trust older amps, to use them all the time. The Kustoms, Sunns, and Acoustics are a dream for me! Hey, let's go shake the hell out of that money tree!

Well, I suppose the one thing you can say about the old amps is that you could more or less repair them and keep them running, unlike a lot of new stuff which seems to be made disposable, which is also like a lot of other technology we have today. For example, on my iPhone, the charger jack is screwed up, but they won't just fix that, and you have to replace the whole phone, even though that's the only thing wrong with it.

I totally agree with you. Somewhat like the auto parts today. Today, the parts in some cases are clumped together as one organ, in place individual parts. Example, the window motor on a car, was a separate part. Now the motor is attached to the switch. So if either section of the window open/close part fails, it costs about $385., depending on what type of car the window part is on.

That reminds me of what my dad used to talk about, with the days of the shade tree mechanic are certainly over. You have to know all about computers and all of that now to fix a car, when before all you needed was a Chilton's Manual. He used to have a few of those, too. I remember seeing them in the garage at the old house where I grew up.

How true. at one time back then, a auto mechanic didn't have to be certified either.

I remember taking some sort of shop class when I was either in the 8th or 9th grade, thereabouts. They got into explaining and taking apart and putting back together an engine, and that sort of thing. It wasn't something I pursued, though. Just one of those fly by electives to pick to have one, like a choice between that or something else.

I had an electronics class in my sophomore year in high school. I learned a bit from it.

I took that class in the 9th grade, but it was a couple of years before I got into playing bass, so unfortunately it wasn't something that stuck with me at the time. It certainly would have had more of an impact after I started playing bass, and dealing with amps and that sort of thing. Actually, even more so a few years into playing, when I started to figure out all of those details in equipment.

The Electronics class I had in the 10th grade, was so-so on helping me on the road. It was I guess better than nothing, but not by much. Every year the electronics got more, and more complex, and the simpler gear was starting to not be uses as much.

Now it's even more so than that. Compare the electronics of your Bassman 800 to an amp from back in the day. Actually, even more so, one of those Rumble Stage 800 amps with all of the built in programming. I mentioned the Bassman 800 to somewhat get back on the subject of the thread. :P

The Bassman 800 is so much more what I think most players back then, would only dream about. And maybe not know it would've been possible to create.
