The Ampeg SVT-7Pro would be a good one if you could get the Orange out of there. It's a pretty complete powerful head.
But the tough thing, There's nothing wrong with the Orange. Like you say, and I agree, you just want, and or need the EQ settings the Orange doesn't have.

Yeah, that's really my only grip with that, because of the violin bass, mostly. The cool thing about the Orange is that it has switchable impedance, which means I can have the full wattage with either 4 or 8 ohms. I have it set for 8 ohms, because that's what the cab I'm running is. I have no clue what the wattage would be if it was still set for 4 ohms, or even if it's safe to do that, even though it would be with most amps. I don't want to find out the hard way, so I make sure it's set correctly for whatever cabs I might use.

That's a nice choice to have on the selection of the impedance, 4 or 8 ohms. The Bassman 800, and 500 switch as needed.

That is one advantage of that, although I've also heard that the switching system could be problematic, but I don't know anything about that. There might have been issues with older versions of this amp, but I think they were worked out, and I've never had any trouble, knock on wood. I have noticed, other than certain tube amps, you don't see that technology implemented often. I wonder why that is?

Who knows, maybe there's something that has to do with cost, as far as that's concerned? That amp brand new wasn't cheap, and I wouldn't have been able to buy one if I didn't get the deal I did. As long as it keeps working when I need it to, that's what matters to me the most.

Nothing that I've seen from Orange was inexpensive to start with. Orange never put out a bargain line, or series that I know of. I guess if you need to use an EQ control with the head, that may be better than selling it at to much of a loss on it. One thing at least, you got it on a pretty good deal price. So id you did lose a bit on it, it's not like you started out the higher regular price for it. OH well.

That's true, I did get a hell of a deal on it. That's why I got it in the first place. I couldn't pass that up. If I do manage to sell it, if I decide to even do so again, I certainly won't take a loss on it, that's for sure. The only thing is still having enough funds to cover whatever I would decide to replace it with. I do have to make it worth my while, since really the only issue I even have with the amp is I would prefer a little more EQ options, because of my violin bass. But then again, I do have a fix for that with the MXR pedal, so it's not like I'm out of luck with that situation. I guess if an opportunity arose to do some dealing with that amp, I'm pretty sure I'd take advantage of it.

There is technically a "budget" line with Orange, with the Crush series, which is all solid state stuff, but the biggest amp they make with that for bass, is a 100 watt combo with a 15" speaker, but the cost of it is almost as much as that 500 watt Fender Rumble combo, so not much of a bargain, unless you really must have that brand, I suppose. Hell, the Ampeg 450 watt combo is $70 cheaper than that Orange combo.

Well at least one thing, you're not in a hurry to sell the Orange, at least that I'm aware of anyway. I do know what you mean about if you child get enough out of it to turn over into something else you could use.

Yeah, I think I'll try and hold on to it for now, unless something comes up to where I can do a deal.

That does make a lot of sense for the time being. Your Orange is a good, powerful amp. Actually, better than most heads. You don't seem to be pushing it that hard either, from the way it sounds.

Yeah, and the guitar player also switched to a Roland JC-77 from a JC-120, which was loud as hell. The JC-77 is a smaller amp, which is more manageable for the volume (80 watts instead of 120,) so I don't have to crank the $@!& out of my amp, and my girlfriend can hear herself better through the PA. He was a bit much, but you know how guitarists can get.

I know all about loud guitarists, and drummers too. Can't have one without the other.

I've been running the Bassman setup for a bit now, and it's trucking a long with no problems. The sounds are flat out super, with either bass. It doesn't get any better than that for my playing. ImageImage

So, do you think you might actually hold on to this one, then?
