I want to direct inject my Rumble 100 into my Yamaha MG16UX mixer and PA for recording since my Fender basses sound better running through the Rumble than as just a naked DI into the mixer/PA. I see there is a Line Out jack on the back of my Rumble which I can use to run the Rumble through my PA. I have done this and it works fine, but here's the problem. There appears to only be ONE volume control on the Rumble -- which controls both the volume through the internal Rumble speaker AND the Line Out volume. This torpedoes what I want to do because I need to SILENCE the internal Rumble speaker and have all of the Rumble bass output carried via the Line Out to the mixer and PA speakers. With both the Rumble and the PA carrying the bass, it's way too loud (2x).

The only way I can think of to do this is to put the Rumble in a separate sound-proofed room, and then run the Line Out into the room where I record, but this is impossible for me. I can't be the first person who has wanted to do this. How can I do it? Thanks for your help...

Try taking a patch cable or anything with a 1/4" jack and plug it into the headphone jack and that will silence the speaker, but you can still use the amp. I've done this with my Rumble 350 combo when I used it to record without hearing the speakers (I was using the monitors for the DAW setup.)

Hey PaulLF. Thank you SO MUCH! Worked like a charm. Just recorded a take of Duke Ellington's C-Jam Blues with my Fender American Standard Jazz Bass run through my Rumble 100 and direct injected into my Yamaha mixer, and it sounds MUCH better that way than the naked bass DI'd into the board...

Yeah, it's probably not a conventional method, but it works. I figured that out years ago when I recorded with a 4-track recorder and a Peavey guitar combo amp with a line out that I used for everything but the drum machine. I didn't have any DI boxes and the bass didn't sound as good to me plugged straight in the recorder, so I improvised and then tried that method when I didn't like hearing the amp's speaker while using headphones for the 4-track, because I just wanted to hear one sound source. Primitive bedroom recording 101. :P

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
