Greetings! I am a new owner of the Rumble 100 and a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz 70s bass. I am a long time Strat guitar player but brand new to bass.

My question is how to understand and handle the choice between setting the gain knob and the master volume knob to adjust the loudness of the amp. I will not be using distortion at this point in my playing. I do not understand the difference of these controls and how to set them. Any instruction for this hapless bass noobie would be appreciated. Thanks!

I never use these amps. If it like all amps with same controls I use.

To use in clean mode ; use gain as your amp volume.
Master volume; turn it and leave it at max.

Gain; it is the first stage ( tubes ) volume control, where you could have overdrive.
Same as most amp with only a single volume control . If you turn this volume clockwise you got more loud output and more overdrive.

To use this overdrive a "low " volume if you want, amps builder put another volume ( master) just before amp output.

I hope this help. :)

Welcome to the Fender Forums photonic! Great first post and question. Here's a link to a Rumble Talk on proper gain structure that I think you'll find helpful.

and another link to tone tips and the tone pool.

Yikes! Complicated stuff. Thanks for the link. So, looks like the best place to start is with the master at noon, not at full force. Then it looks like for a clean sound, the gain should be set at 9 to noon.

I will start here and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help!

You're welcome! The more you experiment with your new Rumble the more it will come to you and become second nature. When that happens you'll know exactly what to tweak and how much.
