They don't have covers for those two things, then?

They have two separate covers for each item. I'm not picking up the head to get the cab cover on.
I played the V-4B a bit longer today. Heating it up more, breaking in the tubes. It sounds BEAUTIFUL. I do like it better than a Fender Bassman tube amp. More simple to adjust the EQ. and the sound is a fine Ampeg. I give the Devil his due. In a tube amp, Ampeg is ROAD REX APPROVED!!! The best in my opinion anyway!

That's true, I'll bet that head isn't exactly lightweight, although less that the SVT would be, I'm sure. That's one thing that Ampeg is known for is their tube stuff, or what other bass tube amps try to emulate. That I remember, I've never had an opportunity to play through an all tube Ampeg. I've played through and owned Ampeg Solid State, and tube preamp models.

Yep, until this Ampeg, I never had a tube Ampeg. The SV-7PRO was as close as I ever came to one. 41 Pounds is definitely lighter than a SVT-VR, weighing in at 85 pounds. OUCH!!!

Yeah, hauling that thing around would build up your arm strength. That 8 x 10" cab isn't exactly a lightweight, either. It's like 165 pounds. No wonder they call it a "refrigerator." :P

I still remember the first Ampeg I saw in Plantation Music in 1969. It was incredible. Plantation Music was in the Fort Lauderdale area, and one of the early autherized Ampeg shops in the area.

I think the first time I've really seen, but not played through, those big Ampeg stuff was Thoroughbred Music in Tampa, which you might remember, since they had a few stores around Florida, I do believe (I think Sam Ash took them over, but not sure.) That was not too long after I had started playing, that's probably why I didn't play through it. I was a newb and that was an expensive amp, even back then.

No, I don't remember Thoroughbred Music. It may not have been prevalent in this area. All of the Fort Lauderdale area stores were good. But the for real pro music place on the east coast was, Ace Music in North Miami, on 7th Ave. They also did a lot of rental equipment.

They had a Thoroughbred Music as far down south in Sarasota, but that's just below St. Pete, going across the Skyway Bridge, anyway. I'm not sure if they had any going towards the east coast, or even further up north past Tampa, come to think of it. Of course, when Sam Ash opened up down there, they are all over the place, so I suspect they moved into other music store businesses, as well. Speaking of the Skyway, were you down in Florida when that thing collapsed in 1980? I remember that quite well, and going across the remaining section, before they built the new one, and made that into a fishing pier. That was kind of spooky going over and seeing that, but I was either 8 or 9 years old at the time.

I've been around south FL since 1959-1960. I don't remember the Skyway collapsing. But there was a time somewhere back about then, I wasn't watching the news. For a few years too, I wasn't to in touch with local music stores either.
I saw something going into a change, just about the time I was on the road for a bit. The three more major local music stores, started closing. Broward Music was the Kustom dealer, Plantation Music was the Ampeg dealer, and Fort Lauderdale Music, that was the upscale Marshall dealer, in the older part of old downtown Fort Lauderdale, on Las Olas Blvd. MAE, my favorite mom & pop shop I liked since my high school days moved west on Davie Blvd. to a bigger store. My EB0 came from MAE.

As far as I know, Bringe Music, which was a local haunt going towards downtown St. Pete is still in business. They have an extensive music school there, so that's probably why, and St. Pete High School probably does business with them for their band stuff, since they do sell horns and all of that, or they did. Plus, there never was a Guitar Center to move in there and take over, like they did all over the place. I remember the thing about certain dealers having to sell certain products, because of the distance between each store. I guess it's something to do with having so much per area, I don't know. Maybe that's all changed because of the internet, and some surviving places won't even carry products like Fender and Gibson, because of some unreasonable demands they put on them.

There's a Backstage Music locally here that got out from the Fender, Gibson crap. They do ok selling other brand named items. They do very well with supplying a fair number of schools in the area with band instruments. Music is music, and money is money.

It is that. I suppose sooner or later, I suspect that whole thing is going to hit a wall, with Guitar Center, and all of that.
