Yeah, I guess many things can happen to cause issues, like environmental issues (humidity, etc.) or dropping the instrument by accident. Sometimes, a simple cleaning can fix it, I think. By the way I found a bunch of videos on YouTube that have comparison tests between different strings, and some giving you a general idea of what certain strings sound like. I know it's not a 100% way to find out about something (you really have to try them yourself, with your own setup,) but it gives you a rough idea. The interesting thing that I heard with a flats test, was the Fenders had a bit more brightness in their sound, and the D'Addario Chromes were close to that, as well.

By that statement, you'd almost fire up the debate that some folks contend Fender strings a manufactured by D'Addario. I do like the D'Addario Chrome Flats, at least for long scales. Short scales, I'd have to see what is available for that.

Well, I've decided to go ahead and get my usual Rotosound flats. I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. :P Actually, I do like them, and I like the history associated with the brand. That was the Ox's brand, after all, except he used the rounds, which oddly enough I've never tried, that I remember. Maybe almost 30 years ago, or something like that.

I can't knock that reasoning. I'm the first one to be there with my version of, "Old Habits Die Hard". That's my way of the D'Addario strings. One reason why there are different brands of strings. At least you're using long scale strings for your bass. Short scale choices are less available.

Yeah, and with the violin bass, you have to get medium scale strings, because of the way the bridge is, and those seem to be even rarer than short scale ones, at least with brand selection. Although, I've read that GHS have increased the length of all of their strings, so you don't have to do that anymore.

A guy at D'Addario told me, there is an industry standard that runs 42" total length of the string if I remember correctly. That doesn't matter what the scale length is on the string. How they decided that length, who knows. Interesting about GHS lengthing their strings. Fitting some strings to certain basses is a pain. At some of the prices for bass strings, it pretty much has to fit, unless there is another bass in the barn those strings will fit on.

Yeah, GHS came out with this a while back. http://www.ghsstrings.com/articles/2006 ... ss-strings It looks like they tack on another 3/4" on the length.

That's a good move I guess. It's still a PITA finding out what strings fit what properly.

Long scales are I guess the safest, best bet of any fits going.

That's true, unless you have that whole string through body thing, maybe with a 35" scale, instead of the 34" one, but I think most strings would fit that, too. I always have had to trim off excess length on the strings when I changed them, anyway. Most 35" scale basses are often 5 or 6-string basses, as well. I guess they do that so the B string is tighter with the extra length in scale.

When I change D'Addario strings on a 34" Fender, E, A, & D strings are cut to size, and the G fits fine without measuring, or timing to size.

I'll be glad to be getting the flats for the Precision, but I'm going to try salvaging the rounds that are on there, and see about putting them on the Peavey. I have some flats on it, but they are heavier gauge ones that I was using before I switched to the lighter ones. I'm curious to see if that would effect the buzzing issue with it.

Speaking of my Fender Rumble, I'm going to be giving it a good workout tomorrow. I got to go over some songs that I'm going to play for gigs, and just practice in general. I figured I'd give that a mention to get the thread on track a bit. It's a great amp, although I'm not sure if I'll use it live again, or not, since I do have the Orange, which is lightweight, but then again, I do have to haul the cabs.

At least the Orange is cooperating with the size, and weight. You seem to do well the Rumble 350. A good amp to push.

Oh yeah, it does what it needs to do. Imagine, in January, I will have had it for 6 years now.
