Thanks. I think I'm going to be getting that ball rolling today, if not definitely Monday. 8)

I put it a good six hours between my Precision Bass and violin bass through the Rumble the other day. That's the most have played in a long time. My finger tips are a little rough from the rounds on the P Bass, but that's probably because I used flats for so many years.

Rounds will get the fingers back in playing condition pretty quick.

Yeah, they can do that. I'm really thinking about going back to flats, though. I do like the attack I can get with the rounds, but there's some things that I miss with the flats, although I do have the Jazz and the violin bass strung with those. With weighing the pros and cons, really the only pro I've found with the rounds, besides typically cheaper cost and availability, is the attack you can get with them. Other than that, the flats have more pros to me. Flats are smoother on the fingers, especially if you play for several hours, but then again you'd eventually get used to that, and they do offer a bass heavy or warmer tone, with a lot less finger noise. Easier to slide around with, too.

My Nylons are very similar to flats, they have the thump. Pretty easy on fingers, and strings both.

That's something I'd like to try someday, which I also found Fender makes a set of nylons, as well. I remember we were talking about the different brands of nylon strings, and I happen to find out they have them, as well. I was thinking about trying out the Fender flats, since I did use them many years ago, when I found a set at a flea market, of all the places, and I've seen they have them online at Guitar Center/Musician's Friend/whatever else they own, for $21.99, which is cheap as chips for a set of flats. I don't mind the sound of the Fender rounds that are stock on the Precision, now, so it might be something to look into. I know I was loyal to Rotosound for a few years, but I'm not that adverse to trying something else, at least every once in a while.

There is a pretty good selection at hand these days for Nylon strings. Sometimes it comes down to the gauge sizes in the particular brand that will interest looking at, or purchasing them.
I like the D'Addario Nylons for a few reasons, but one is the (.50, .65, .85, .105) sizes are very close, if not exact to many nut cuts. My Gibson SG Std.'s nut cut is (.45) on the G string. The D, A, & E string are a perfect size cut. The (.45) G is close enough to a (.50) G fit. Heritage Cherry (top), Walnut (bottom) ImageImage

I did notice the D'Addarios are pretty slim for nylon strings, which is quite helpful, I think. That way you don't have to worry about any sort of adjustments as much, or the strings being too thick. I had seen the Fender nylons are .058, .072, .092, .110 in size, which looks like it's between the D'Addario and Rotosound in thickness.

Speaking of Fender strings, bassstringsonline.com has a Black Friday sale with the Fender flats for $19.99, which is pretty damned cheap for flats. I'm going to get a set of those and checking them out. I do like the stock Fenders on the Precision, so might as well keep it in the family for right now. I did use them went I was a newb and remember really liking them, so we'll see. Oh yeah, they also had your nylons on sale for $27, which seems to be a good price for those, too.

The Fender Flats are a good string. They were strung on the Am. Std. Fretless Jazzes.
$27. Is a good price on ETB92 Nylons. With the size of the ETB92 Nylons, I've never had a fit problem in any brand's nut. Long, medium, or short scales.

Yeah, they aren't too thick for nylon strings, so that's a bonus for that. I realised with the sale on that site, there's only free shipping with $25 and over, so it might wind up costing me more, since they are only $19.99, than I could get them at Guitar Center and affiliates for $21.99, plus free shipping. I'll have to figure that one out, and I might even decide to go with something else, if that looks more appealing. I'm still deciding, but I'm pretty sure I want to go back to flats, at least. Eventually, I do want to try out the nylons, but I think I should do that on a secondary bass, just in case I might not like the feel of them as much as the flats, and then I won't be stuck with them on the main bass. I do have a few basses at hand, besides the fact some of them need some repair.

Just but, I'd string the Nylons on a good working bass. See how they play and sound, and as long at there going on a Fender style head, you can remove them, then string what ever you want to on that bass.

Well, eventually I do like to get everything in working order. It's mostly issues with the jacks, like having shorts in them. I don't think there's anything too serious with the basses, like pickups totally burnt out, or something that's needs total replacement.

The jacks are some of the easier problems to fix.
