That was en easy transition from the Fender to the Ampeg cab. Perch the SB on top of the SVT, switch the SB to 4 ohms, and plug the load into the cab. Tahhhhdaahhhhh! Image

Easy is always a good thing. You just got to make sure the impedance switch is set correctly, which I double checked when I did that with the Orange and I was running two cabs. I don't want some sort of amp failure to happen. That's usually an expensive thing to happen, especially frying a transformer. :P

I had it switched before the Ampeg showed up, and I checked it a couple more times, taking no chances. I even checked it just before I powered it up on standby. A tube head, and a 212 cab, it doesn't get any better than that.

Well, maybe another cab or another head and cab stack would kick it up a notch. :P Your neighbors would love you even more, then.

I could add another 4 ohm SVT-212AV. One of the nice things about an amp with an impedance switch for, 8, 4, or 2 ohms. the Ampeg SVT-CL only works 4, or 2 ohms. I never understood why Ampeg didn't design it with 8 ohms capabilities.

Maybe it had to do with the original SVT being run with two 8 x 10" cabs, or at least that was the intent? I'll bet another 2 x 12" would seriously thump. At least you have the means to do it, if you wanted to do so. I wish the switchable impedance on my Orange had the ability to go down to 2 ohms. That could have been useful, especially when I had to go out of my way with extra expense to get both an 8 ohm 18" speaker (not to say the Celestion wasn't a nice addition,) and pay an extra charge and wait to get an 8 ohm 2 x 10" cab.

Sometimes it's little emanates like that, or the Automatic Bias that won me over to the SB, over the SVT. They cost the same, and the SB is about 20 pounds lighter.

Fenders have a good tone to them, too. Even their guitar amps sound pretty good with bass.

I always liked the sound of even guitars through Dual, or Deluxe Reverb amps.

Carol Kaye used a Fender Concert or a Deluxe Reverb amp with 4 x 10" speaker configuration to record her bass through back in the 60's, on a P Bass with flats, a pick, and a piece of felt to mute the strings. 8)

Yeah, just be careful not to blow the speakers. I doubt she had that thing cranked to the ceiling.

Yep. Common sense comes into play somewhere along the line.

It does, or it should. If not, then you have problems. :P

I guess if you have the cash, it doesn't matter that much.
