I didn't appreciate the position it put my guys in. The guys were Roadies, not enforcers. I gave them a crash corse in repelling borders. None of the guys were in the service, and weren't up on how to handle hostile aggressions. And of corse, not being actual security personal, it was a tricky situation.

Yeah, you weren't packing an M-14 with the rock and roll switch on it to really show you weren't messing around, with you, either. Of course, as effective as that would have been at repelling any sort of aggression, the local constabulary would have no doubt seriously frowned upon unleashing a volley of 7.62mm FMJ rounds against a bunch of overzealous hippies in a public venue. :P Then again, there was there was stuff like Kent State, so who knows?

It wasn't as catastrophic as break out the battle gear, but these guys were at most in a pushing, or shoving match in a high school hall way. A minute later, and it was all over. A thin line between acting, and over reacting in a situation like that.

Sometimes, things starting out relatively harmless enough, can go south pretty fast when there are more people added to the mix, and some of those people might be either drunk, high, or both. I have to say, that's not a situation I'd want to be in. Do you remember what happened at one of those Who concert where some people were even killed? I guess they got trampled, or something. I forget the story, since it's been a while since I read about it. I did see something about a memorial that was constructed recently about it. I'm not sure, but I think it might have been in Cincinnati, or somewhere like that. Cleveland? I'd have to look it up, again.

It was Cincinnati I'm pretty sure. That was open seating that caused that.

Yeah, imagine something like that, you're going to a rock concert, and the last thing you'd expect is getting killed. Unfortunately, that's happened more than once, and a few times because of terrorism.

Some Led Zeppelin concerts have been marred by fans rushing the gates.

Yeah, people can get pretty crazy, especially in large crowds. I can imagine what The Beatles must have felt like during the height of that madness. It must have been quite surreal and frightening at the same time. Imagine that they couldn't even go anywhere and were stuck in hotel rooms between shows and what not.

Maybe not to the same degree, but a lot of them had the same issues, and stuck in hotel rooms. Maybe it was a good thing to be a Roadie after all. We were just a bunch of guys that were kinda' near the band. Backstage anyway.

Well, you were certainly a very important part of it. You know, The Beatles didn't even have a road crew, just Mal Evans, and maybe another guy that helped them carry their gear, which is why they probably didn't have a lot of gear, other than what they could manage themselves. I suppose if they kept going to the point where the amps and PA stuff got bigger, they probably would have had to have a crew with them, like the bands going into the 70's and beyond did. I suppose they did do that as solo artists, though. I know Paul McCartney certainly does. He's playing through a couple of stacks for both bass and guitar, and has a big stage set up. He certainly doesn't have any trouble hearing himself on stage these days. :P

Yeah, I was listening to his back catalog a while back. A lot of good stuff there. 8)

Yeah, that one band he was in during the 60's wasn't too shabby, either. :P
