It certainly sounds pretty damned good. I'll be honest though, not to complain about what I have (I'm not,) but I wouldn't mind running it through one of those Hartke cabs like you have, or even some variant with the Hartke, and what I have. I think there's something to that aluminum speaker with the paper.

I can now see what Jack Bruce saw in these Hartke cabs. And he could use any bass cabs known.

Yeah, I imagine so. Ironically, I don't think he even got to, or used the HyDrive cabs, which according to them, he was the inspiration for them, because he mixed the aluminum and paper cone cabs for the Cream reunion. I think at the end, according to the website when they had his Hartke gear listed, He used an HA3500 head (originally, he had the HA7000 head, which they quit making years ago,) and the aluminum 4 x 10" and 1 x 15" speaker cabs. I'm not sure if he used two stacks or not, though. I was surprised he went from the 500 watt one down to the 350 watt one, but then again it's actually a loud amp, and he might not have need it, and was playing smaller places. He could have used more than one, too. He did that with the Cream reunion. He had like 4 500 watt heads, and 2 8 x 10" cabs, and 2 1 x 15" aluminum speaker cabs, from what I could tell. That had to shake the rafters. :P

A lot of bass power there. I'm sitting here with my set little up, and I love it. Jack either knew what he was doing, or took some advice from some smart folks. Maybe a combination of the two.

Yeah, he certainly put his time in while he was around.

Jack had a lot going for him, and he didn't have it given to him.

I actually own a Fender Precision Bass and play it on my Fender Silverface Bassman amp coupled to a VT Bassman 15 speaker cabinet. (Amp Presently out of commission).

I’m not a full time professional musician, just your average musician but I have played numerous gigs and I do like the tone of the amp.

That's true. I'm glad I finally took the plunge and have gone through most of his discography, and a lot of live stuff. I actually wound up liking it even more so than Cream, for the most part, especially live. I've certainly developed a new appreciation for him, but it's a shame he's no longer with us to continue. Sadly, that's been the case more and more lately for musicians from the 60's. It's like they had a 50 year life span, and that's that. :(

Don't say that, I'm 67.

Yeah, hopefully that's not the case for everyone. I'll tell you, cancer is a huge motherf'r, and that was the culprit for a lot of them. I hope someday they'll find a cure for it.

Getting back to Jack Bruce, I was just watching a video that I posted in the "What Are You Watching" thread called "Jack Bruce - The Cream Of Cream - Complete Instructional 1998," and it's really good stuff. He plays some Cream songs with Gary Moore, and some drummer that I don't know who it was, and then he's by himself playing the bass lines, and talking about them. At the end of the video, he's playing a Gibson EB-1 bass, and he was talking about that, as well. You know, if I ever hit the lotto or something, I'm getting one of those SOBs. :P Hopefully, they'll be one on the market somewhere, if that's the case.

Adding to the amps he used before Hartke, I found some videos with him playing with Rory Gallagher, and you can see he's playing through a Fender stack. Here's a video where it eventually does somewhat of a close up on it, towards the end of the song. It looks like it might have been part of the BXR series, maybe the BXR Dual Bass 400, which I don't know if I ever told you, I had very briefly. I bought it from a music store, but then since it was a two channel amp, like a power amp, and I only had one speaker, and didn't understand the concept of bridging your amp at the time, I swapped it out for that Ampeg SVT-3 Pro I had after. In retrospect, maybe I should have held on to it, because I did get another cab, and all of that. You know, one of those dumb decisions with gear you should have held on to. The cab looks big, so it's possible (I just found this in research) that it's a 1 x 18" and 2 x 10" cab, which I found out was called a "Spectrum." It's possible it could be a 2 x 15" cab, with the speakers placed diagonally, which they might have had at the time.

Here's the video:

I found pics of the BXR Dual 400 and that Spectrum cab:

Nice. That must really put out the sound.

It sounds good there. I also had a BXR 300 watt combo amp, before I got that Dual 400 head. It was a pretty good amp for a combo, but I needed something bigger at the time, unfortunately. I say unfortunately, because the band I was playing with wound up being a huge waste of time, and the guitarist in it, whom I knew pretty much since I started playing, became a total arsehole, and I had to quit for my sanity.

On further study, I actually found the full concert for this, and it wasn't just Jack Bruce and Rory Gallagher. It was Rory Gallagher in concert, and Jack came in for the encore and did some songs with him. He had another bassist with him, so I'm assuming that was that guy's rig, and he just plugged into it. I didn't even know Fender offered an 18" speaker of any kind, until I found out about this one, other than that one that was with the PS400 amp in the early 70's.

I can safely say, there were a lot of types of gear that I never knew about. I just didn't have the time.

I imagine so, especially when you did the roadie gig. You probably didn't have time to go a lot of shops, and there wasn't an internet back then, and not everyone could go to NAMM. Did they even have NAMM back then?

I honestly don't know if they had NAMM back then. You miss a lot when you're working it. I had my crew, the gear, transportation of the gear, and the crew, etc. That was a 24-7 job. And we didn't have beepers, or cell phones.
