I'm hooked on the HyDrive speakers, especially the 15's. It pounds like a MF, NO! Never mind that one. Image
A great sound though!

So you think you finally found your ideal rig then?

Yeah,...... it's a big time sound at any volume. Surprisingly enough the HD115 brings out the power, and tones from the Super Bassman. The SB's 300 Watts through the 500 Watts HD115. Like I may have mentioned before, 500 Watts through a single 8 ohm 15 is amazing. Most are 300 - 350 Watts. You really can hear the Hartke with a smooth air moving power thump.

It really is. I could've gone with a 100T, in place of the SB, but time is getting shorter, and I just wanted one last good size tube head that's mine, and I don't move for anyone else. It pounds like a SOB! Honestly, it looks ok on top of the 15 cab. That Hartke is so under rated for pairing with a tube head. Or at least it seems that way to me from the reaction I get when I tell them of the combination.

I think you definitely got a great combination there, then. You certainly have more headroom with the Super Bassman, and that 15" can move some air. Have you ever tried the Super Bassman with a Hartke cab in the past? I remember you've had both.

No, I don't believe I ever ran a Super Bassman through any Hartke cab. This HD115 is my second HD cab. The first HD was the HD210, that was paired up with the Hartke TX600 head. Like I said though, most of the players are really surprised when I tell them about using the SB / HD115 combination. Grant it, there are a lot of possible combinations of heads / cabs to choose from. I just got a wild hair to try this combination. I'm glad I did. Jack Bruce did know what he was using.

I thought you had another 15" Hartke, but then I remember that was a combo amp of theirs. I don't think you had it for too long. Sometimes those wild ideas can lead to great things, and it looks like you might have found something that works. Yeah, Jack knew what he was doing. Speaking of him, I'm thinking about diving into his music catalog, which I've never really done, other than some Cream stuff, when I'm done with the Canned Heat stuff. Believe it or not, I've never heard most of it before. At least now, I have access to it.

There may be a good number of artist from the late 60's early 70's that you may like if you can get a taste of the music. Jack was an incredible player. I often wondered where Jack got the music in his head to write "Theme For An Imaginary Western", until it ran through my head a few years ago, The Beatles, "A Day In The Life". If you get a chance, listen to the two , and tell me what you think.

I'll eventually get to that for sure. I've been doing stuff chronologically, at least for the Canned Heat stuff. Some of it I couldn't find online, though. There's also like a boat load "greatest hits," or those type of recordings, which I'm trying to avoid, since I want to hear the actual records that were put out. It's not always easy to do, especially with bands like this from the 60's, unless it was someone uber famous, like The Beatles, or The Doors. Sometimes, all I've found was rerecordings from bands, instead of the original records. I think it was The Fortunes, or a band like that, which had that going on. You can easily tell a record from 1965, compared to something redone in the 80's, or 90's. Not to say it was bad, but I wanted to hear the original sound.

The original sound is where its at. Aerosmith doing The Beatles, "Come Together" doesn't make it. Some good music came out from say 1963, to 1973, 1974.

Well, I think it just gives off a certain vibe that defines that time period, at least to me, if I want to listen to that. I want to hear that woolly thud of a hollow body bass, not one with active pickups, and that primitive reverb and overall sound. Sure modern recording might technically sound superior, or whatever, but it's not the same, if that makes sense. I want to hear what was heard in 1965, even though it's long gone, and I didn't even exist when it happened. I guess it's just an immersive thing for me, with that type of music. I do understand why certain groups would want to redo stuff, though. There's been things that I've even recorded I'd love to redo.

From 1963 there abouts, Rock was starting to in a heavier sound. It really grabbed me. Little by little the Beach Boys sound wasn't holding my attention any more. The Kinks, "You Really Got Me", was one. But the kicker was, "All Day And All Of The Night"! It wowed the hell out of me.You could hear the bigger bands like The Who were starting to write stronger sounding songs as, "I Can See For Miles". Rock was getting an attitude! Not to mention louder!

There were a good number of those folks around that thought it was all drug induced.
